MILWAUKEE, WI - Team KOOL Green drivers Paul Tracy and Dario Franchitti turned the seventh and 13th fastest laps in today's rain-shortened practice for Sunday's Miller Lite 225 at The Milwaukee Mile.
With the morning session cancelled due to a wet track from early morning rains, the teams were limited to one two-hour session this afternoon. In that session Paul Tracy turned a fast lap around the one-mile oval at an average speed of 163.262 mph (22.756 seconds), while teammate Dario Franchitti averaged 162.392 mph (22.878 seconds).
Fastest on the day was Indy 500 champion Helio Castroneves with a lap average of 166.601 mph (22.300 seconds), followed by Cristiano da Matta at 165.392 mph (22.463 seconds) and Kenny Brack at 164.964 mph (22.535 seconds).
Single-car qualifying for Sunday's race is set for tomorrow beginning at 2:30 p.m. (EDT). It will be preceded by a final practice session, with the field split into two groups, with the first group out from 10:30 a.m. - 11:15 a.m., followed by the second group, which includes Tracy and Franchitti, from 11:30 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. (All times are Eastern Daylight Time)
The 225-lap race starts at 4:00 p.m. (EDT) on Sunday, and will be televised live by ABC.
PAUL TRACY, #26 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA/REYNARD:
(7th with a lap-average speed of 163.262 mph / 22.756 seconds)
"Not a bad day. We got off to sort of a slow start with some electronic problems, but the Team KOOL Green crew sorted it out and we really got going in the end. I'm pretty happy with the car today and I think we've got something to work with tomorrow. The track was pretty green, but it's the same for everybody."
DARIO FRANCHITTI, #27 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA/REYNARD:
(13th with a lap-average speed of 162.392 mph / 22.878 seconds)
"It was an interesting session because the track was so green from the rain. We're trying a number of different things just trying to get a car we can race with and get the balance right. We haven't quite found the sweet spot yet. Team KOOL Green has some work to do yet, but they always come through and we should be good tomorrow."
KYLE MOYER, TEAM KOOL GREEN TEAM MANAGER
On new undertray: "It should be better, because that's what the numbers from the wind tunnel show. But it's not a true back-to-back test to find out really how much, so it's hard to say. It certainly seems better because if you look down the list the Reynards are a lot closer to the Lolas than at Nazareth. As far as the cars, Team KOOL Green has a bit of work to do but I'm sure we'll sort it out by qualifying."
