The weather continued to play a factor in Saturday's practice and qualifying sessions for the Molson Indy Toronto as conditions switched from wet to dry. Despite the challenges, Walker Racing rookies Rodolfo Lavin and Darren Manning found a little more speed in their #5 Corona and #15 RAC Walker Racing Champ Cars, respectively.
Rodolfo Lavin (R), #5 Corona Competition Team Ford-Cosworth XFE-Reynard-Bridgestone
"The weather has just not been good for us - sometimes raining, sometimes not. I think we got six OK laps on dry tires, but of those six laps I only got three or four clean laps due to traffic. Unfortunately, we weren't able to qualify well. We should have qualified a little bit better. I had a lap that was .5 quicker until I got to Turn 8 when I nearly spun, so I lost the advantage there. The Corona car is much better this afternoon from this morning; the car was breaking much better. Tomorrow is another day, so we'll hope for the best in the race."
Will mark his tenth Champ Car start, Will mark his first Champ Car start at Toronto, Has six previous starts at the circuit contesting races in Indy Lights (1996 - 1999) and in Toyota Atlantics (2001 - 2002) where he earned consecutive eighth place finishes
Darren Manning, (R), #15 RAC Walker Racing Ford-Cosworth XFE-Reynard-Bridgestone
"We got the most out of what we had given the limited practice time we've had with the weather. The RAC Walker Racing Champ Car was pretty well balanced; it just wasn't going any faster. We need to find a bit more grip all the way around. I do think what we're finding here will also help us in Vancouver with a starting set-up which will be good. To be able to overtake in the race tomorrow though, we need to find a bit more speed and get a bit faster than the guys in front of us which I'm confident we can do. "
Will be his eleventh Champ Car start and tenth with Walker Racing, Has earned seven top-ten finishes in 2003, Has eight top-ten finishes to his credit in ten starts, Ranked tenth overall in the drivers' championship with 45 points, Currently second in the Rookie of the Year standings
