Allmendinger Collects Top-10 Start in Toronto
A.J. Allmendinger, #10
Qualified 8th 59.379/106.401 mph
Allmendinger picked up nearly a second of speed from his provisional qualifying effort and gained three positions on the grid to start eighth in Sunday's Molson Indy Toronto. This marks the rookie's fourth top-10 qualifying effort in six races.
"I'm fairly satisfied with that session, with 8th place. I led the team in the wrong direction with what I wanted from the car and after practice this morning we kind of went back. I just misread the car. I flat spotted the front tire on my first qualifying run, so there was a bit more speed there. The car was definitely better on the first set of tires; I just didn't get the lap in. We should have a good race car. I think the race will be like Portland in that if your car's OK, you can maintain the tires. If your car's not handling well, you're just going to fade."
Jeremy Dale, Team President
"The RuSPORT team learned a lot yesterday and they gave AJ a much better car for final qualifying. He was really attacking the race track. He put up a pretty good lap time. I think the car is lacking some raw speed, so we need to find a bit of speed in the car but we're a whole lot closer. It's nice to see that we made the gain that we did from yesterday."
