Toronto front row for Tracy,
Paul Tracy bettered his provisional time set yesterday and gained a position to put himself on the front row for his home race, tomorrow's Molson Indy Toronto. Tracy, who will start second, held the pole position briefly before being knocked off in the last frenzied minutes of final qualifying. His Team Kool Green teammate, Dario Franchitti, will start 6th. Franchitti fought traction problems during both the morning practice session and qualifying, but was able to move up six positions from the morning practice.
Shinji Nakano found better balance in his Fernandez machine and improved from yesterday's provisional starting position of 12th to 7th - the most improvement by a Honda powered driver in today's qualifying. Adrian Fernandez retained his 13th starting position set Friday.
While continuing to learn the Lola chassis in street trim, Tony Kanaan was fastest in the morning practice and ended the day qualifying 10th.
Michael Andretti continued to suffer his share of problems and was forced to switch to his back-up car for qualifying after his primary car developed a fuel pick-up problem on his second out lap. He will start 18th.
Tomorrow's race, round eight of the 2002 CART FedEx Championship Series, will be broadcast live on CBS starting at 1:30 p.m. ET.
Paul Tracy (#26 Team KOOL Green Honda): "So far we're having a really great weekend. I made a little mistake and ended up in the run off, but we re-grouped and were able to keep it on the front row. It's just that da Matta-he's getting everybody-but right now we have good momentum going and hopefully a good result to follow."
