Mexican driver Michel Jourdain Jr. set 19th fastest time for the provisional grid for the Molson Indy race. His best time was a 1'10.434 lap, at 89.701 Mph. Jourdain Jr. qualified during the first group session when it was raining, something that did not help very much to improve his times, despite being 14th fastest in the morning practice.

Michel Jourdain Jr., Car #16, Herdez/Bettenhausen Motorsports: "In the morning we had a good run, but for the qualifying session it was raining. I hope tomorrow all the field will run under similar conditions and we can improve our times."

Joe Ward, Team Manager, Herdez/Bettenhausen Motorsports: "Michel was in the first group of qualifying today and it was a rain session; it was wet all through our session. Very heavy rain at the beginning and he qualified 19th and the second group went out on a dry track and they obviously went quite a bit quicker. Hopefully tomorrow we can improve our times."
