Sebastien Bourdais #1 McDonalds Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 1st)
"I don't know if it's just me, but it was slippery out there. We were just talking it over with Justin. It was a big sliding party. It was a lot of fun, but obviously when you start sliding it can get pretty hairy out there. Between touching and hitting a wall, it's a fine line. Managed to do that today. But we're going to have to make some progress for tomorrow. Just a good effort from the McDonald's team. I think the conditions changed quite a bit between the afternoon and the morning. It's very good to be back on top here. It's a fun event. It's a fun course. To be able to assure yourself a front row start spot, it's a big advantage. We'll try and capitalize on that tomorrow."
Oriol Servia #7 INDECK Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 2nd)
"First of all, always frustrating to end up two-hundredths behind Sebastien. But, to be honest, very happy to be in the press conference. It's been a while. Last few race we really didn't have the pace. Very frustrating being in a team like Forsythe and just not being quick. Friday to Saturday in Mont-Tremblant, we did a big change in the setup and the car got a lot better. We couldn't show it because it was raining Saturday and in the race. The car is very good. The basic issue we have is on the brakes. Really struggling with the brakes right now. But balance-wise, we're very happy with the car."
Justin Wilson #9 CDW Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 3rd)
"Everything was working well. Really pleased with the progress we made during that qualifying session and through this morning. Car was feeling good. I felt like we had a chance of going for pole. Getting quicker every lap. But I think, like Oriol, we got stuck in traffic, could never put a good run together. One lap, back off for two laps, one more lap. It's very hard to put a lap time in around a track like this. My last lap, my second to last lap, I was up a couple of 10ths, like a 10th and a half. I spun off in the last corner. Just trying a bit too hard. I don't think it was ultimately quite quick enough to challenge the front row, but it would have been nice to look a bit closer. Got to be pleased with the progress we made. We stuck with the standard Bridgestone tires. I think we got a pretty good balance in the CDW car."
Robert Doornbos #14 Team Minardi USA Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 4th)
"It's fun to be back on a street circuit again, but it's often tricky to find a good set-up. We need to work hard now to get more out of the car, particularly in terms of traction. The way Champ Car works, we have another chance tomorrow, so we'll be aiming to improve our position in the second qualifying session."
"Speedy" Dan Clarke #4 Team Minardi USA Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 5th)
"We ticked off a few boxes today, getting in the top five for the first qualification. Everyone on the team did a great job, but there still is more to be gained. We have another day to find some more time and we'll make another run for the pole. Today's session was a preparation for tomorrow and race day, and we accomplished what we intended to."
Simon Pagenaud #15 Aussie Vineyards Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 6th)
"We definitely made lots of improvements from this morning, but the track picked up lots of under-steer in the end and unfortunately as soon as I put a consistent lap in I wasn't able to match it back. I really feel like we should have improved our lap time and now we just need to understand why we didn't have a better lap in the end, possibly under-steer. Overall good improvement, I'm proud of all the guys. We had a gearbox issue earlier in the session and they were able to fix the problem quickly, so thanks to all of them."
Paul Tracy #3 INDECK Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 7th)
"I was really struggling with the brakes locking up on the hard braking zones. I got blocked a couple of times by Will Power and then again by Graham Rahal so we still had some time in the car but just weren't able to show it, and then the last lap which was my quickest the tires were starting to go off so we never got the maximum speed out of the car. But I think we are not bad, obviously Oriol has come across something where he feels the car is pretty good so we'll take a look at his setup and go from there."
Graham Rahal #2 Medi|Zone Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 8th)
"The Medi|Zone team doesn't quite have the speed yet. You have to be brave to go quick here and I am confident we can but the car isn't close enough yet. The brake zones are rough and bumpy which makes it difficult and challenging at the same time but the car is very poor in the braking areas, especially in turns five and eight so it's tough maximize breaking. In Turn 3, which is the highest speed corner on the track, I am faster than Sebastien but at other slower corners I lock my brakes. We have been able to improve on Saturday at the past races so hopefully it will be the case tomorrow."
Katherine Legge #11 Dale Coyne Racing Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 9th)
"I was very pleased with my time today. It was nice to get off to a great start by qualifying ninth. The team gave me an awesome car today. I think that we will get the car even faster tomorrow depending on the weather."
Bruno Junqueira #19 Sonny's Bar-B-Q Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 10th)
"I had a great car today! I would have easily had a top five today if it wasn't for Will Power. I was pushing as hard as I could on the last lap. Unfortunately, he kept making mistakes and was blocking me from getting around him. His last mistake caused me to lose down force to the car and my front wheel clipped the tires and then the next thing I knew I was into the wall. I'm just very upset right now because I had a great car. Hopefully we can get the car ready for tomorrow."
Tristan Gommendy #22 Pay By Touch-Megaspiera Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 11th)
"I did a good lap in the Pay By Touch MegaSpirea car, but I made a mistake and spun, so I lost my fastest lap. If not for that I would have been sixth. Overall, we are in a good position. We just, basically, need to keep improving the car. I think we have a top-five car right now and that is my goal every time out...to be in the top-five. The biggest problem is I don't know the circuits, and of course, I spun today."
Alex Tagliani #8 Tide@Walmart Victory Lap Charity Program Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 12th)
"I think that we had a decent car, but then we made some changes to the #8 Tide@Wal-Mart Victory Lap Charity Program car this afternoon. Those changes ended up being a mistake because they did not improve the car, nor make it feel better. So, we went two different directions today, but I think that we were able to learn what worked and what did not work. From that, we can use that information and adapt our car to make it better for tomorrow. I am pretty sure tomorrow we will be able to get the two RSPORTS cars up front the way we were this morning."
Jan Heylen #34 Champ Car Grand Prix of Belgium Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 13th)
"I ran into a bit of traffic near the end of that session. It ended up hurting us at the end of one lap and the beginning of another so we lost about three tenths because of that traffic. We were running really well during the warm-up and then we made a few changes that didn't work out. It is only Friday and we were able to use the session to learn a few things about the car so we'll go back and look over our data to improve our standings tomorrow. Overall, the car is feeling strong and we had a promising run at today's qualifying so we'll be working to have a better result during the final qualifying."
Ryan Dalziel #28 PCM Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 14th)
"It's great to be back in Toronto...the fans are terrific and I'd forgotten how much I love this place. We are disappointed we missed practice due to some issues with the car this morning. The qualifying warm-up was our first time I really drove the car today. We've got a lot of work to do tonight, it isn't an easy car to drive right now."
Neel Jani #21 Red Bull-Gulfstream Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 15th)
"I couldn't do anything in the Red Bull Gulfstream PKV Racing car today. Pre-qualifying was not bad, but in qualifying I had problems braking. I couldn't drive a lap I was fighting so much. We have to take a look at all the data and figure out what to do so we are better tomorrow."
Alex Figge #29 PCM/Molecule Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 16th)
"We are working hard out there. It's my first time in a Champ Car here and also the first time I've driven the track in three years, so I am re-learning it and learning the Champ Car's limits at this place. Toronto has always been tough, we are feeling that for sure, but we're going to keep working at it and hope for a better result tomorrow."
Will Power #5 Aussie Vineyards Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 17th)
"Unfortunately we were unable to get in any good laps in the few laps that we were able to run, because the wiring loom failed earlier in the session. Hopefully we can get on pole for tomorrow and the positive is we were able to get out there and get a few laps thanks to the Team Australia guys, plus we have an extra set of tires, which will help for tomorrow. We just need to go back tonight and get some more information."
