Tony Kanaan, #44 McDonald's Honda-Reynard:
"We had a problem with the gearbox on our primary car this morning. We switched to the backup car and we were 0.5 seconds quicker. About 10 minutes before qualifying, we decided to withdraw the primary car and take a chance with the backup car. It was a gamble, but it paid off. I am very happy and very proud of my guys -- the Drive-Thru Crew. I know I still have a lot to learn, but I have more experience now. McDonald's has given us the opportunity to do more testing -- we've done over twice the amount we did last year already -- and that has made a big difference as well. As Steve (Horne) says, we have no excuses this year."
On winning the watches from his Drive-Thru Crew:
"I made a bet with my guys before the practice session this morning. I collect wristwatches, and I told my guys on the radio that they would have to give me their watches if I got the pole position. If I didn't, I would buy them dinner. They all took off their watches and gave them to me after qualifying. I have to lend them back this evening so they will be on time for the race tomorrow."
Steve Horne, President:
"It was an excellent result for the whole team. We have been able to do a lot of testing and a lot of development this year, and I think it is really starting to pay off. Tony delivered and the guys delivered, and it put us in a position that gives us an opportunity tomorrow. We'll see what happens."
