LONG BEACH, CALIF. -- Defending Long Beach Grand Prix champions Team KOOL Green head to the second CART FedEx Championship Series race of the season looking to continue the dominating performance on temporary street circuits that has earned the team eight street course victories, including four 1-2 finishes.
PAUL TRACY, #26 Team KOOL Green Honda-Reynard:
(Started 17th / Finished 1st at Long Beach in 2000; currently 3rd in the standings with 14 points)
"I'm looking forward to just another day at the Beach - hopefully making it two in a row for Team KOOL Green. We're coming off a good, solid run at the first race in Mexico, where the car was great and the TKG crew once again showed why they're undefeated in the pit crew contest. We're the defending champions at Long Beach and we know we can run well here, although I'd rather start a little closer to the front this year. And I always really like coming here. The atmosphere and the crowds are great, and it was where I won my first Champ Car race (1993), so it's always been one of my favorites."
DARIO FRANCHITTI, #27 Team KOOL Green Honda-Reynard:
(Started 19th / Finished 23rd (DNF) at Long Beach in 2000; currently 9th in the standings with 4 points)
"We always give the fans their money's worth at Long Beach, for sure. It's probably one of the most exciting circuits on the Champ Car schedule, for drivers and spectators alike. As a driver, you really have to be on top of things all the time, as there are relatively few places to make a move and a number of places to easily get into trouble. But Team KOOL Green always puts it all together and we've had good runs here in the past. I'm confident we'll do the same this weekend. I've been runner-up twice at this race (1998-99), I'd like to think it's my turn for the win."
BARRY GREEN, TEAM KOOL GREEN OWNER: "We started out the year with a pair of top-10 finishes for Team KOOL Green, and I think that bodes well for the rest of the season. I'm especially optimistic about Long Beach. A TKG car has finished first or second three years' running and we fully intend to continue the pattern. It's a tricky circuit to set up for and very unforgiving. Getting the car right for the bumps -- being able to get the power down -- is crucial. The TKG engineers have a knack for hitting it dead-on and giving the drivers exactly what they need."
