BROOKLYN, Mich. - Paul Tracy will start fourth and Team KOOL Green teammate Dario Franchitti will line up 25th after qualifying was rained out today for Sunday's Michigan 500 and the grid was established based on results of the morning practice session.
Tracy set a fast lap during the one-hour session of 227.783 mph / 31.609 seconds, while Franchitti struggled with the setup on his car, as well as a mechanical problem, and posted a best lap of 220.453 mph / 32.660 seconds.
Champ Car drivers are scheduled to have a 30-minute warm-up tomorrow morning at 9:30 a.m. The 250-lap Michigan 500 begins at 1:30 p.m. (EDT), and will be televised live on ABC.
PAUL TRACY, #26 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA/REYNARD:
(4th with a lap-average speed of 227.783 mph / 31.609 seconds)
"Starting from practice times makes me pretty happy, obviously, because we had a good run this morning. I've got a great race car. We did some work in the shop on the 7-post rig and the KOOL car's been great right off the trailer. I'm really, really happy with it. It was very good in the draft and that's pretty important. It's a long race and you want to be ready to attack with about 30 or 40 laps to go. You're not going to drive away from anybody so you've got to be ready at the end. It's good to be sitting second with just two or three laps to go, because it always seems to come down to two or three guys. You don't want to be leading, for sure."
DARIO FRANCHITTI, #27 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA/REYNARD:
(25th with a lap-average speed of 220.453 mph / 32.660 seconds)
"I'm not happy to be starting at the back, but I've won a race from there in the last few weeks (Cleveland, July 1) so it's possible to have a good run even from last. Fortunately, this is a long race and Michigan is as good a place as any to be starting in the last row. It's going to be difficult coming through the field, though. We'll just have to have patience and a bit of luck and hopefully things will go our way to put Team KOOL Green back in victory lane."
