Adrián Fernández, Owner/Driver -- #51 Tecate/Quaker State/Telmex Honda/Reynard:
Combined Practice Sessions: 21st 23.343 = 228.557 mph
“This is like a roller coaster. You get dizzy! It is a lot more physical than I thought. The steering wheel is very heavy, and I think it is going to be harder on a driver here than normal. The track is extremely bumpy and that wears you out.
“We seem to be picking up some speed every time out. Our car is a little bit loose right now, and I had a big moment coming out of Turn Two. The car is not exactly where we want it on the rear. We are going to work on that, and trying to free up the car. Hopefully what we learned today is going to be a good direction for tomorrow. It’s been a wild ride here, that’s for sure.”
Shinji Nakano, #52 Avex/Alpine Honda/Reynard:
Combined Practice Sessions: 27th 23.410 = 227.903 mph
“The car was okay, but not perfect. We are still looking for a good setup. There are some places where the bumps really upset the car, and it is still not good enough when I am behind another car. I am learning the track and the banking, but I think it is a fun track to drive.”
Tom Anderson, Owner/Team Manager:
“I’m pleased with the day. We ran a lot of heavy fuel loads. Qualifying here does not matter because, with the Handford wing, it’s a drafting situation anyway. I don’t care where we qualify as long as we’re safe because in reality it doesn’t matter. We worked on race setup all day and probably will for some of tomorrow morning as well. I don’t think that we have a shot at the pole here, but what we really want to do is to try and win the race. I think if we are running at the end of the race, we will be in a good position to win.”
