Team Rahal and Jourdain conclude successful test at Milwaukee.
HILLIARD, OH . . .CART franchise member Team Rahal wrapped up a successful two-day test at the venerable Milwaukee Mile which saw Michel Jourdain Jr. and the Gigante team fine-tuning the team's short oval package. Jourdain, currently second in the CART championship with 32 points, ran 360 miles over two-days and logged a fast lap of 22.2 seconds in his Ford-Cosworth/Lola which features Bridgestone tires.
"We had a couple of trouble free days of testing," said Ray Leto, Team Rahal Technical Director and the race engineer for Jourdain. "We were able to work through our entire test list and we learned some things that should benefit us at Milwaukee and Chicago."
"The first day of the test was a little difficult since we were the only car on track and the rubber hadn't built up," said Jourdain. "Things really began to take shape on Tuesday and I think we made some great progress. This is a really busy time for the entire team with the tests and with Indy, but when you make the kind of progress we did over the last two-days it is all worth the extra effort."
Team Rahal is scheduled to test next week at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, OH. The two-day test slated for Monday and Tuesday will utilize both Jimmy Vasser in the Shell car and Jourdain in the Gigante car. The test coincides with a two-day closure of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway where Vasser is running the Miller Lite car in the Indy 500.
"This is a tough stretch for the entire team with the multiple Champ Car tests that we have scheduled and with the Indy 500 program in full swing," said Scott Roembke, Team Rahal Chief Operating Officer. "This just demonstrates again the depth of talent and dedication of the people in our organization. While half of the team is focused on the Indy 500 the other half is making sure that we continue making progress with our testing program for CART."
Team Rahal is a franchise member of Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART). Headquartered in Hilliard, Ohio, the team owned by three-time CART Champion Bobby Rahal and CBS LATE SHOW host David Letterman, currently fields a pair of Championship Cars for 1996 CART champion Jimmy Vasser and Michel Jourdain Jr. in the CART FedEx Championship Series and an entry for Vasser in the Indianapolis 500. The 65-member team enjoys primary sponsorship from the Shell Oil Company and the Gigante Group in CART and the Miller Brewing Company for the Indy 500.
