Montreal, Quebec, February 3, 2003 Spring is a time of renaissance in motor sports, and that is especially true for the Champ Car World Series, as 18 cars, including those driven by Patrick Carpentier and his new teammate Paul Tracy of Team Player's, take to the Sebring, Florida road course for CART's three-day spring-training session, Feb. 4-6.

The Champ Car World Series has undergone a major transformation since the final race of the 2002 season last November. Not only have there been a number of rule changes the most notable of which is that all teams in the series are now using the Ford-Cosworth engine the starting grid has several newcomers competing in the 2003 championship that begins Feb. 23 in St. Petersburg.

That city is also the site of activities being held today to launch the annual spring meeting. These activities include a parade of transporters through downtown streets, a pit-stop demonstration and a news conference with local media representatives.

The action will then move to the 1.72-mile Sebring International Raceway complex for three days of timed testing sessions.

The Team Player's News Bureau will issue a release at the end of each day's session and will send out photos by e-mail to subscribers of this service, as well as distribute CNW photos on the Canadian Press wire service. A video clip will also be sent to television stations by satellite on Wednesday (see coordinates listed below)
