Motegi, Japan, May 11, 2000, - Player's team driver Alex Tagliani was tenth quickest following today's first two practice sessions held at the Twin Ring Motegi oval track in Japan His teammate Memo Gidley was 18th overall.

Tagliani posted his best time during the second session, circling the 1.549-mile oval in 26.596 seconds at an average speed of 337.433 kph.

Gidley, who is filling in for the injured Patrick Carpentier for the third consecutive race, was clocked at 26.777 seconds for an average speed of 335.151 kph.

Kenny Brack was quickest of the 25 drivers registered for Round 4 of the CART FedEx Championship Series. The Swedish driver posted his best lap in 26.072 seconds (344.215 kph) to edge Colombian Juan Montoya (26.092 seconds), American Jimmy Vasser (26.140 seconds) and Brazilian Cristiano da Matta (26.300 seconds).

The lone qualifying session for the Firestone Firehawk 500 will start at 12:15 a.m. on Friday - Eastern Time (1:15 p.m. local time in Japan). A news update will follow.
