"The race was unbelievable, it's just a shame we couldn't fight for the win. I was running in third towards the end when the engine went soft, and we had a puncture in the left rear tire which made the car pick up more understeer. Overall, it was a fantastic season for Marlboro Team Penske. The Team did a great job all year."

-- Finished sixth in the Marlboro 500 Presented by Toyota
-- Two-Time CART FedEx Series Champion

"I'm not really sure what happened today. As I was moving outside to pass the #40 car (Vasser), I started to slow down and I knew something was wrong; then all of a sudden I lost power (lap 86). I feel really bad for the crew; we started the race so well (Castroneves started 24th, was in first place by lap 16 and was running second when he retired from the race). It's a shame to end the season like this because Marlboro Team Penske has worked so hard and done a great job all year. All in all we've had a great season - I won the Indianapolis 500 and my teammate (de Ferran) won his second consecutive Championship - we've come a long way over the past two years."

-- Helio Castroneves, Marlboro Team Penske, #3 2001 Marlboro Honda Reynard
-- Placed 22nd in the Marlboro 500 Presented by Toyota - retired on Lap 86
-- Placed fourth in the 2001 CART FedEx Championship Series
