BROOKLYN, Mich. - In his first appearance on a super speedway in a Champ Car, Project Racing Group (P.R.G.) driver Luiz Garcia Jr. steadily improved on his time throughout the day at the Michigan Speedway.

Garcia's quickest time of the day in his Hollywood-Embratel-Telegate-Reynard/Mercedes-Benz, was 33.813 seconds (212.936 mph) around the two-mile oval. In the morning session, he was clocked in at a 34.596 (208.117 mph).

Garcia was happy about finally getting to run on a super speedway in a Champ Car, but admitted he was full of contradictions in describing his run saying it was fun and scary and easy, but difficult at the same time.

Tomorrow's qualifying for the Michigan 500 begins at 11 a.m. Eastern Time. Quotes "Racing here is exciting and a bit scary at the same time. It's easy, but tough. The idea is simple, go flat out even if the car is not there. I find that to improve your time here you have to work patiently and have a lot of precision. There was a bit more in the car this afternoon, and I know there will be more. My goal today was to a thirty-two (32) without the benefit of a tow. Tomorrow it will be a thirty-one (31). If we can achieve that and have a good qualifying effort, we'll be competitive. It would have been nice to test here beforehand, but we're coping well here." - Luiz Garcia Jr., Driver
