RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL (April 13, 1999) - Team KOOL Green's Paul Tracy and Dario Franchitti will have to wait until tomorrow to run a lap at Emerson Fittipaldi Speedway, as intermittent rain forced CART to cancel the opening day of practice for the Telemar Rio 200.
Tomorrow's schedule has the 27-car field on track for final practice at 7:30 a.m., with single-car qualifying beginning at 11:45 a.m. Eastern Time.
PAUL TRACY, #26 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA/REYNARD/FIRESTONE: "I'd say that everyone on Team KOOL Green is disappointed about missing today's practice. I wanted to get out there, but there's not much you can do about the rain. The track does look like it's in the best condition that's it has ever been. The track has been quite dirty with sand on it in the past, but it looks really clean this year. I'm even more disappointed because we had such a great test in St. Louis. I'm really eager to get going under sunny skies."
DARIO FRANCHITTI, #27 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA/REYNARD/FIRESTONE: "I'm disappointed obviously because it's been sunny since we arrived here. It's too bad because as soon as we were ready to go out on track, it comes down in buckets. It means one less day and one less practice for Team KOOL Green. We'll just have to get the car setup right quicker. I can't afford delays like this because the crew guys are killing me at cards. I just lost five Brazilian Reals."
KIM GREEN, GENERAL MANAGER OF TEAM KOOL GREEN: "It's like studying for a test and not having the time to prepare. Now, we're going to be trying to cram for tomorrow and it's the same for everybody. I'm hoping that because we ran well here last year that the reduced practice time will give Team KOOL Green an advantage over some of the other teams. It's important to have as much track time as possible because this oval is like no other. It's a combination really of an oval and a road course. You must find a compromise setup between a road course and an oval with slow corners like Turns 1 & 4."
