MOTEGI, JAPAN -- With Paul Tracy tied for the FedEx Championship Series lead, and remembering last year's near-win by Dario Franchitti after a dramatic charge from back in the pack, Team KOOL Green heads to the 1.5-mile oval at Twin Ring Motegi with high hopes.
PAUL TRACY, #26 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA/REYNARD:
(Started 20th / Finished 6th at Motegi in 2000; currently tied for 1st in the standings with 40 points)
"Going to Japan is always one of the highlights of the season - the race track, the fans, the sushi are all fantastic. For the second year in a row I'll go there leading the points (currently tied for first) and it's a great position to be in. I'd also really like to give Honda their first win at Motegi, and I think we've got our best shot ever at doing that. Honda has been a great partner over the years and I know everyone at Team KOOL Green would be very happy to see that happen."
DARIO FRANCHITTI, #27 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA/REYNARD:
(Started 17th / Finished 2nd at Motegi in 2000; currently 9th in the standings with 17 points)
"I'm probably looking forward to racing at Motegi more this year than ever before. I had a great race last year and very nearly won, so that's a real positive. Plus, Iain (Watt, Chief Engineer) and I are really communicating well and last race at Nazareth he and the Team KOOL Green crew gave me the best car I'd ever had there. So our momentum is up for Motegi all the way around and I think we're in quite a good position for a successful weekend."
Barry Green, Team Owner:
"The race at Motegi is an important one for Team KOOL Green, no doubt, and one that we're all looking forward to. Paul's on top of the points and people are still talking about Dario's charge from 17th to 2nd last year, so we're looking for good things in Japan. We also have a lot of friends at Honda and to win for them at their home track would be a tremendous honor as well."
Kyle Moyer, Team Manager:
"Team KOOL Green really loves the track in Motegi. We did well there last year and we are coming off a strong run in Nazareth where both drivers had great cars. I know both Dario and Paul want to get Honda's first CART win in Japan, and I'm confident we will give them cars they can drive to Victory Lane." TKG NOTEBOOK
Paul Tracy and Dario Franchitti are excited to be heading back to Honda's home race. The TKG drivers are Honda connoisseurs, Franchitti's stable of cars includes a sporty S2000, a Honda Accord Type-R and an Acura RL; while Tracy has an Acura RL and custom modified Acura NSX. Paul didn't waste any time in adding a few bells and whistles to his NSX. Now with 430 hp @ 7800 rpm, the modifications make it the coolest NSX around. Here's the lowdown.
#61623: Supercharger with a high-boost kit Carbon fiber air box and cover Stainless steel headers and muffler Adjustable sports suspension, shocks, sway bars Power Grip 2 clutch and flywheel Non-compliance beam toe link kit 4 wheel Brembo brake kit with Indy calipers Aluminum engine compartment brace & custom engine cover
Both Tracy and Franchitti demonstrated their fiery spirit last year at Motegi. After starting back in the 20th slot, Tracy clawed his way through the field and posted a sixth-place finish, while Franchitti, who started 17th, moved through traffic all the way up to second, an effort that earned the young Scotsman his first podium of the season.
WHERE: Twin Ring Motegi, Motegi, Haga, Japan
