Short Day Ends Long Season For Team Kool Green
FONTANA, Calif. - Team KOOL Green drivers Paul Tracy and Dario Franchitti had their race and season come to an early and disappointing conclusion today, when both suffered mechanical problems. Tracy's day ended on lap 65 of 250, while Franchitti's race lasted only 74 laps.
For the season, Franchitti finishes 7th in the final championship standings, while Tracy finishes 14th.
Team KOOL Green is donating $74,470.31 to 100 Black Men of America based on performances by Paul Tracy and Dario Franchitti in five races this season, including today's race at California Speedway (the other races were Detroit, Cleveland, Chicago and Houston). The donation is the result of money paid for laps completed in a partnership between TKG and 100 Black Men of America. The money will be used to create cyber centers and place 1,000 computers in homes to increase access to computers, technology and training in urban communities. PAUL TRACY, #26 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA/REYNARD:
(Started 18th / Finished 23rd / 14th in final standings with 73 points)
"It was fun out there while it lasted. I knew I had a great car. I was able to go from the back (started 18th) to the front in just a few laps, then I was just cruising around with the leaders and trying to conserve the car for the end of the race. I had no warning - I just lost power and that was it. It's disappointing for everyone at Team KOOL Green. We had a perfect car today - one that could easily have won the race. But today's race kind of sums up our season of frustration. But Team KOOL Green will bounce back - we'll refocus in the off-season and get ready for next year."
DARIO FRANCHITTI, #27 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA/REYNARD:
(Started 22nd / Finished 22nd / 7th in final standings with 105 points)
"The car was just fantastic today. It's such a shame, because I really think we had a shot at the million dollars (for the win). We weren't really stretching the engine, either. We were just cruising along; we didn't want to lead this thing because of fuel consumption. We were just running in the draft, looking real good. I had about half a lap warning when the engine started to tighten up. So I pulled down on the low line so I wouldn't leave a trail of oil on the track. Needless to say, it's a huge disappointment for everyone at Team KOOL Green. When you've got a car as good as we did, you really want to be out there racing."
