CORBY, United Kingdom - Team KOOL Green came away with two top-10 finishes today in the inaugural running of the Rockingham 500 at Rockingham Motor Speedway in Corby, United Kingdom. Paul Tracy finished sixth and teammate Dario Franchitti came in ninth. Tracy's result advanced him to 10th in the CART FedEx Championship Series point standings with 76 points, while Franchitti remains in 6th with 89 points.
The event turned out to be a one-day affair, after moisture problems on the track caused all practice and qualifying sessions on Thursday and Friday to be cancelled. Champ Car drivers had one 90-minute practice session early Saturday afternoon, with the race beginning shortly after 4:30 p.m. Due to the late start, the race was shortened to 140 laps.
Gil de Ferran won today's race with Kenny Brack coming in second and Helio Castroneves third.
PAUL TRACY, #26 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA/REYNARD: (Started 11th* / Finished 6th / Currently 10th in the standings with 76 points)
"I'm just glad we got the race in for all the fans, and Team KOOL Green picked up some points. It was a long weekend for everybody and it was a challenge for the teams to get it all done in one day, but they did a great job. It just shows you how good these crew guys really are. We had a good race and that's what matters. We made one minor adjustment on the first stop and the car was well balanced for the rest of the event. There was racing at the front and the final result was a decent show. Rockingham is a good track to race on, and eventually it will be a great facility to showcase the CART series in the UK. It's fast and you can pass, but it's not easy. The front group of cars is always fast and you're not just going to drive by somebody."
DARIO FRANCHITTI, #27 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA/REYNARD: (Started 6th* / Finished 9th / Currently 6th in the standings with 89 points)
"We had a great crowd today and I hope they enjoyed their first look at Champ Car racing. The Team KOOL Green car was good on the first stint and I got by (Scott) Dixon on the start and passed Michael (Andretti) and Helio (Castroneves). Then the temperature dropped so we had an imbalance and the car felt one way going into a corner and different coming out so it was quite nervous near the end of the race. It was more difficult to pass in the second stint but I was still able to get by other cars, but today we had a couple of problems in the pits and didn't get quite the result that I think we were capable of."
