Rain Slows TKG's Friday Practice In Australia
SURFERS PARADISE, Australia - Rain showers kept Team KOOL Green drivers Paul Tracy and Dario Franchitti on pit lane and off the race track most of the day. Both drivers are looking to better weather and more track time on Saturday in preparation for Sunday's Honda Indy 300.
The weather report calls for clearing skies overnight and the TKG duo will try again Saturday morning in Australia, with a one-hour, 15-minute practice session scheduled to run from 8:00 p.m. - 9:15 p.m. (EDT) on Friday evening in the United States. Qualifying for Sunday's Honda Indy 300 is schedule to begin Friday night at 11:45 p.m. (EDT) and run until 1:00 a.m. (EDT) in the United States.
The 65-lap race starts at 12:00 a.m. (EDT) on Sunday, and will be televised later in the day by ESPN at 1:00 p.m. Eastern Standard Time.
PAUL TRACY, #26 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA/REYNARD:
"We obviously didn't get a lot accomplished today because the rain really limited our time on track to one installation lap (out and in without crossing the start/finish line and recording an official time). We won't worry about it too much because It was the same for everyone. Team KOOL Green usually runs good here, so we should be able to get up to speed pretty quick tomorrow. I've qualified fourth every year I've been here with Team KOOL Green (previous three years). I'd be happy to start the race from there again this year."
DARIO FRANCHITTI, #27 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA/REYNARD:
"It's a real shame we didn't get to run today. We could have used the track time to check out the resurfaced areas of the track and get the KOOL car sorted out. And I know all the fans that showed up today would have preferred to see a little more action on track. But the weather looks good for tomorrow and I've qualified really well here with Team KOOL Green (Pole in 1998 & 1999; 3rd in 2000), so I'm hoping we'll be quick straightaway and can focus on making a good race car for Sunday."
