WHAT: Detroit Grand Prix - Round 8 of 19 in the FedEx Championship Series
WHEN: June 5 - 7, 1998
WHERE: The Raceway on Belle Isle, Detroit, Michigan TEAM KOOL GREEN AT THE DETROIT GRAND PRIX
PAUL TRACY, #26 Team KOOL Green Reynard/Honda/Firestone: (Qualified 12th / DNS in Detroit in 1997; 1994 race winner; Currently 12th overall with 26 points;)
"It's an uphill climb for us for the rest of the season. We've run fairly well in the races, but we've had a little trouble in qualifying and the pits. I'm hopeful that we can get the right setup on the car early and then concentrate on just running a good race. There's no doubt that we have the capability of winning Detroit or any other race. It's just a matter of putting it all together and getting the job done on Sunday."
DARIO FRANCHITTI, #27 Team KOOL Green Reynard/Honda/Firestone: (Started 5th / Finished 13th in Detroit in 1997; Currently 8th overall with 38 points)
"I'm really excited about going to Detroit and getting back on a road course. Detroit was one of my better races last year. I qualified well (fifth), we ran up front, I led for four laps and I had the fastest lap of the race by over a second. I'm sure that Don (Halliday, chief engineer) and the rest of the Team KOOL Green crew will give me a great car, and I think the Honda engine will suit the track."
NAOKI HATTORI, #27 Team KOOL Green Lola (PPG-Dayton Indy Lights Championship): (Started 7th / Finished 7th in Detroit in 1997; Currently 9th overall with 26 points)
"We had a good setup in Long Beach this year and ran very well in the race (finished 3rd). Detroit is similar to Long Beach, so I think the car will be good. And I have had my best finishes on temporary circuits."
ALEX GURNEY, #27 Team KOOL Green Reynard Dodge (Barber Dodge Pro Series): (First start at the Detroit Grand Prix) "We're going to be racing on the same weekend as the CART guys and that should be really exciting. It will be the first time my father will have had the opportunity to see me race in person. I'm really looking forward to it."
