DETROIT -- Former race winners Paul Tracy ('94) and Dario Franchitti ('99) of Team KOOL Green are both seeking to score a second win in the Motor City as the CART FedEx Championship Series returns to road racing at the 20th running of the Tenneco Automotive Grand Prix of Detroit on June 17, the first of a string of four road course races in five weeks.
PAUL TRACY, #26 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA/REYNARD:
(Started 19th / Finished 20th at Milwaukee in 2000; currently tied for 3rd in the standings with 40 points)
"I'm looking forward to getting back to a road course like Belle Isle after racing on ovals the last couple of months. We've had a couple of tough races recently and it's time to get back on track. It's not like we haven't had a good car -- the Team KOOL Green crew has done an awesome job of getting the car right no matter where we are. We've had some good luck in Detroit before, so hopefully we'll get the results this weekend that will show just how strong the team is."
DARIO FRANCHITTI, #27 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA/REYNARD:
(Started 2nd / Finished 4th at Milwaukee in 2000; currently 12th in the standings with 21 points)
"I've always liked racing in Detroit -- the circuit seems to suit my driving style and Team KOOL Green kind of has a knack for doing well on the street-type circuits, so we should be fast this weekend. We've certainly been competitive all year, but we've just been running a little short of racing luck. We were 1-2 here in 1999, so maybe this will be the place to turn our fortunes around. It would be good to get some momentum heading into this string of six races in seven weeks."
KYLE MOYER, TEAM MANAGER:
"The best thing about Team KOOL Green - drivers, crew members, everyone involved - is that they never give up. Yes, we've had a bit of bad luck recently, but it's early in the season and we've got a long, long way to go. Don't ever count us out! Paul's still tied for third in the points and a good run or two will put Dario right back in the thick of things. We know we're more than capable of getting the job done, and we intend to do just that in Detroit."
Just two years ago Team KOOL Green drivers Dario Franchitti and Paul Tracy left Detroit with a significant amount of hardware thanks to their stunning 1-2 finish on the picturesque Raceway at Belle Isle. The dueling duo are likely candidates to repeat that performance this weekend...and the spoils of their victory could end up benefiting the Detroit community.
TKG will make a special announcement later this week regarding an urban community program at selected CART FedEx Championship Series events this year, with the kickoff slated for this weekend in Detroit.
