Gamma Racing Group, LLC confirms its Renspeed shifter kart brand will be the "official kart" of Robby Gordon's Anaheim-based Champ Car team.

The OEM Yamaha powered Renspeeds are a race-winning choice of many top-level kart racers, and are even more popular as cost-effective race-trainers among race car drivers.

"The Renspeed shifter karts are the closest you can come to the sheer exhilaration of a Champ Car," said Team Gordon owner/driver Robby Gordon. "Awesome acceleration, sequential shifting, and unreal cornering all translate to great training for what I experience in the CART FedEx Championship Series. I make a point of karting at least two or three days a week in the off-season to keep my reactions sharp and my race mind in shape."

Added Paet Hidalgo, owner of Renspeed: "When a driver of Robby's caliber and experience tells you that he believes track-time in a shifter kart will help prepare him for a grueling '99 season that includes the FedEx ChampCar series and the legendary Baja 1000, that's a serious endorsement for shifter karts."

In other news, plans are underway for a new spec shifter kart series that will be sanctioned by Professional Sports Car Racing, Inc. and will run in support to the American Le Mans Series. The five-event, 10-race kart series will award a full-season racecar ride to its champion, in addition to individual event purses. The series will feature a double-race format, a la Touring Car racing, and will utilize an economical "arrive & drive" format.

The kart series events will be featured at American Le Mans Series venues and will be conducted on permanent and temporary kart-specific circuits.
