ANAHEIM, California (Feb. 11, 1999) - Like most racers, Robby Gordon always wants to cross the finish line first and wax his opponents. Today Gordon and his new CART team announced the addition of Turtle Wax brand's, Formula 2001 and CD-2, to its fold of sponsors.

"Robby's record as a racer speaks for itself, which makes us very pleased to be associated with a bonified motorsports all-star like Robby Gordon and Team Gordon," said Turtle Wax Director of Marketing, Bob Piché. "As CART's only owner/driver, I'm confident that Robby will be successful quickly. It certainly appears that he's surrounding himself with some really good people."

Team Gordon - co-owned by Gordon, John Menard and Mike Held - will field a Toyota-powered Swift Champ Car in this year's CART FedEx Championship Series. Gordon enters his eighth CART season as the series' only driver/owner at the age of 30. In his career, Gordon has won two CART races and four poles. Menard currently operates the midwest home improvement chain, Menards as well as Team Menard on the Indy Racing League circuit. Held has been involved in various motorsports business capacities for the last 20 years, most recently as Gordon's personal manager.

"We're going to make that Turtle faster than anyone could have imagined - tell all the hares to watch out!" quipped Gordon, whose young and energetic persona sparked Turtle Wax's desire to align itself with the first year team.

"We're trying to do a better job of effectively reaching younger males," said Piché. "We think that Robby can definitely help us do that. Our whole advertising platform for CD-2 performance products is going to be based on intensity and high performance. I'm comfortable that we've got the right person in Robby to help us communicate that."

Turtle Wax joins other Team Gordon sponsors Menards, Panasonic, Johns Manville and Duracell, with its CD-2 and Formula 2001 product lines.

"Turtle Wax is exactly the kind of company we want to help promote with our new race team," Held said. "Our ownership group takes a lot of pride in being able to bring new sponsors to the series like we have with Johns Manville, and now Formula 2001 and CD-2. Fresh companies help make our sport grow, and with Turtle Wax, they've shown us a commitment and level of excitement that mirrors our commitment to win the CART championship."

Team Gordon begins its 1999 racing season with the Miami Grand Prix in Homestead, Florida, March 21, 1999.
