TEAM AUSTRALIA/WALKER RACING GETS AN EARLY START FOR 2007 SEASON
Indianapolis, IN (September 23, 2006)- The 2007 season has already gotten off to an early start for Walker Racing/Team Australia. Champ Car has introduced its new car, the Panoz DP01, which is not only bringing new life into the series but into the team as well, who already have three DP01's ordered.
The new car brings a number of cutting edge technologies and new features with it from safety innovations which include a collapsible fuel cell, to the distribution of the aerodynamics of the DP01, designed to provide more passing opportunities. Other changes include a higher nose with a two-stage impact system, an onboard starter, and paddle shifts just to name a few.
"Champ Car has made a bold move by introducing a new design for 2007 and we have made a commitment to the series by ordering three new cars for 2007," stated Team Australia/Walker Racing co owner Derrick Walker.
Not only is the new car exciting for the whole series but for the engineers as well who get to switch gears and learn a whole new car. "From the engineering stand point there are many things that are great about the new car. First of all, getting the opportunity to learn a new car, and the fact that everyone will also have the same opportunity to learn the characteristics at the same time, the aerodynamic package will allow for better racing and more passing, and finally the input from the other teams during the design of the car allows for a quicker introduction and less new car teething problems. Basically, the new car provides a level playing field for all the teams," stated Team Australia engineer Mike Pawlowski.
All of these new features provide great racing for the fans, as well as affordability for teams. With the excitement of the new car and a revitalized schedule, Walker Racing/Team Australia plans to move forward with their multiple operations. Currently the team competes in the developmental ladder series with programs in Atlantic and Formula BMW USA.
Three new Panoz DPo1's were ordered and the team expects the delivery of the first set of the 2007 cars in November. For more updates on the team check back to www.walkerracing.com for more information.
