Tracy finished fifth overall posting his best lap time around the 4.498-kilometre (2.795-mile) temporary street course in 1 minute 33.528 seconds for an average speed of 173.137 km/h. Like most leading drivers, the Canadian improved by more than half a second from his best lap during Friday's qualifying.

"We have trouble going through the chicanes where the car is bouncing around a little too much," said Tracy. The team will have to improve the car for the final qualifying because we are still more than a second away from Bruno (Junqueira). It'll be a battle in qualifying this afternoon."

His teammate Carpentier is also struggling with the car as he finished 13th overall with a lap time of 1 minute 35.122 seconds (170.236 km/h).

"We are going backward," said Carpentier, who is four tenths of a second slower than Friday. "The car is unstable over the bumps and in the chicanes and the brakes are inefficient. The team made too many changes to the car. We started on Friday with Paul's set ups and I guess we went the opposite way as he improved and we did not. It's very frustrating."

Bruno Junqueira topped the chart in this morning's session with a lap time of 1 minute 32.219 seconds. The Brazilian was half a second quicker than his closest rival as he averaged 175.595 km/h. Adrian Fernandez (1:31.705) from Mexico was next, followed by Canadian Alex Tagliani (1:32.863), rookie Sebastien Bourdais and Tracy.
