Will Power ...
Will Power #5 Aussie Vineyards Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "I feel awesome actually. It's great for Team Australia and to be in Australia and be an Australian driver, couldn't have hoped for anything better. The good thing is the car is quick. I think when we did a long run in being practice today, and the car was very consistent; I think in the race tomorrow we can maintain a good speed."
Sebastien Bourdais #1 McDonald's Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "Well, I guess I'm the first one to be surprised to be there because you know, when I wrecked the car and I just came in the pit and was expecting to find myself somewhere in the Top-10, but nowhere near the front. So it's a bit surprising. I know the car is in pieces, that's just the way it goes. Maybe a little over-optimistic, but at the same time, probably just over shot the apex point by, I don't know, five centimetres or something like that. And the plastic belt wrapped around the front tire and by the time I knew what was happening, the car was stopped without the left side. So a little bit of a tough break for the McDonald's team on that front, but very good starting position. You know, it's just up-and-down from yesterday and today and we're going to start second, so not that bad, not that bad a day really."
Paul Tracy #3 INDECK Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "I'm happy with how the performance of the team has rebounded from yesterday. Obviously yesterday was a huge disappointment not get to go qualify because I felt that we had been quick right from the drop of the flag yesterday. The car would not start for us yesterday. But you know, the session went out well, we went out early to get a lap time and the second run, I got kind of stuck behind Oriol Servia, and he held me up for two laps of the four laps we got out there before it went red. So it was a little bit frustrating, because I know there was still a lot of time left. I had a couple of laps that were much, much quicker than what we ran in the first set. But hats off to Will and Team Australia. Tremendous accomplishment here in his hometown and there's always a lot of pressure to perform. I've been in the same thing in Toronto, and when you can score a pole in front of all your family and friends, it's a great feeling."
Bruno Junqueira #2 Hole in the Wall Ford-Cosworth/Bridgestone/Lola/Bridgestone -- "I was up 3/10ths of a second on my last lap at the last turn, slowed down due to the red flag and still ran a 32 second lap. It's a shame the red came out but that's racing. The car was much better today; I felt a big improvement. I thought the track would be the same as yesterday and not faster, which is what happened. I was surprised my fastest lap was on the standard tires though. I ran three laps that were a lot faster but the red flag came out for those. It's difficult to start in fourth place especially for Turn 1 on the start but I think the car is pretty good on old tires so I expect a good race tomorrow. It would be great to be the first repeat winner here. I love racing in Surfers. The race will be pretty exciting."
Nelson Philippe #4 CTE Racing HVM Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "Wow, I am on a bit of an adrenaline rush because I had a lap going that was looking good enough for pole but we lost it with the red flag. The session was satisfying but a bit disappointing at the same time. Satisfying, because this is my best qualifying result and starting position but disappointing because I was so close to something great. That is the way it goes and at the end of the day I am happy with my car, I am working on my track map and there isn't anything that I really feel we need to change. We're always really strong in the race and I think a podium finish is very realistic for us tomorrow and quite possibly even a victory. We've got a very good car, we just need to play our cards right. I am enjoying every minute of this, this was already my favorite street circuit, but with the car I have this weekend, it is really, really fun!"
Oriol Servia #6 Gulfstream Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "The Gulfstream -- PKV Racing car was okay today. I probably should have run a little better than yesterday, which would have put me in a better position. The basic problem was that the differential broke on us this morning, so we lost the whole morning practice session. That meant we couldn't try some of the things we wanted to and the other drivers were able to improve their cars. The other problem was the red flag. That hurt us a little, but that was the same for everybody. The Gulfstream car wasn't the easiest to drive. We definitely have some room for improvement, but we still had a decent qualifying effort and we will start sixth, which should be okay for the race tomorrow."
A.J. Allmendinger #7 INDECK Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone --"I'm really disappointed with my starting position, we put in a lap that was quick enough for the front row only a couple of seconds after the red came out so they took it away from us and now we'll be starting mid-pack. I mean I know my car is fast and I'm confident that we'll be able to pick up some positions during the race but we just have to make sure that we make it trough Turn 1. The whole Forsythe Team has done a great job this weekend, I hit the wall yesterday during qualifying and my guys worked really hard to make sure that the backup car was ready to go this morning, I can't thank them enough. There's never been a repeat winner here and I'm going to do my best to keep the streak alive by winning tomorrow!"
Dan Clarke #14 CTE Racing --HVM Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "I am a bit annoyed with the session because we on the first couple of out laps that there was something wrong that we obviously had not anticipated. I came in we got the car sorted out our problem and when I returned to the track I immediately set a faster time than what I set yesterday. The red came out on the next lap and that was it, so the session was wasted. We're still starting eighth and we'll give it our best shot tomorrow."
Alex Tagliani #15 Aussie Vineyards Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "It was a bittersweet day for us. First I want to say congratulations to Will. He did a fantastic job and brought a great result for Team Australia. It was a little disappointing we couldn't have been higher up on the grid, but we are in the top ten and will aim for the podium tomorrow."
Mario Dominguez #8 Pemex/GICSA/Del Valle Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "The track was slower today, but the #8 Pemex/GICSA/Del Valle car was faster. We had enough to move up into the top five or six on my last lap of qualifying this afternoon, but I lost that time because of a red flag. I am very happy with the progress that we have been making on the set up of the car because it is definitely faster. So tomorrow I know that we will have a good car in the race. I am looking forward to a good race and hopefully finishing on the podium for Rocketsports, Pemex, GICSA, Del Valle, and my personal sponsors Telmex and Bridgestone."
Ryan Briscoe #10 RuSPORT Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "I'm really happy with the qualifying session today. I was really coming to terms with the level of grip that you can get from the alternate tires by the end of the session. I didn't get the most out of the first set, not knowing the grip, but got it by the end on the second set. I managed to put in a good lap early and was hoping to improve on that when we got the red flag. In the end, I'm happy with 8th in that session. I'm excited to start in my first Champ Car race tomorrow."
Andrew Ranger #27 Wal-Mart/Tide Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -"It was difficult again today. We improved our time but not our position on the grid which is disappointing. The car is not where we want it right now but it will be a long race and the most important thing will be to pick up as many points as possible tomorrow and move the car up the field. Anything can happen, especially here in Surfers. To look on the brightside, nearly every time I started out of the top-ten I finished with a good result. Hopefully that will continue tomorrow."
Antonio Pizzonia #18 Lexington Energy Services Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone --"I am very disappointed. We had a brake issue during the warm-up segment of qualifying causing me to lock up everywhere on the track. That is what caused me to make contact with the wall, the entire #18 Lexington Energy Services car just locked up and there was nothing that I could do to avoid contact. We are still not sure what exactly the issue was, and we are looking into it. It was not too big of contact, but it was enough. My Lexington Energy Services crew did a fantastic job trying to repair the car in time for me to get a few laps in this afternoon during qualifying, but unfortunately we ran out of time. It is a shame because we did so well this morning. When looking at the lap times that were run this afternoon during qualifying and comparing them to the times I was running this morning, I feel that we could have qualified in the top three, if not even had a shot at the pole. My engineer, John Gentilozzi, has given me the best car that I have had in the three races that I have run with Rocketsports. So we should have a good race, but it will be hard starting from the back of the field in the 13th spot. We will work on having a smart strategy for the race tomorrow and see if we can not finish in the top five."
Charles Zwolsman #34 Mi-Jack Conquest Racing Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone --"It was one of the worst sessions of qualifying so far this season because I got one clear lap in the whole session, for the rest it was all people going slow on track. That's what is frustrating because we improved and we were quicker than yesterday but we are not where we were in the last few races. We're going to keep on working and hopefully we will make something happen. The race tomorrow is going to be more difficult than I expected, like I said, we were doing really well in the last races and so far we are not quite on the pace here. It's just a matter of seeing the finish line and improving, both me and the car together and to get more out of it."
Katherine Legge #20 Bell Micro Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "I think the thing that hurt the Bell Micro -- PKV Racing team the most in qualifying was the lack of track time due to the engine problem we had yesterday. It's is my first time here at Surfers Paradise and this is a very tricky and challenging circuit. You really have to get it right to get the best time and I just didn't have enough time on the track to put a really good lap together. Obviously I am disappointed, but the Bell Micro -- PKV Racing team will make some changes to the car tonight and I am confident we can have a good race tomorrow."
