Sebastien Bourdais ...
Sebastien Bourdais #1 McDonald's Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "I haven't really thought out a strategy heading into the race in Australia. I'm just going to treat it as another race, try to go for it and win. For me the work is done on my side. Setting the fastest time in qualifying on Friday or Saturday is just going to change the time frame of when I clinch because it should take place at some time over the weekend. The McDonald's team is just going to try to win both poles which is what we try to do every weekend. I don't race for championships; I keep in mind that I need to finish each of the races but if I have a winning car I try to get that result. If I don't have a winning car, I just try to get best out of it and hope for a podium. It's a testament to how good Newman/Haas Racing is that they have been able to give me a car that is capable of winning so many times. The Surfers Paradise track is great and the Aussie's are really deep into racing. It's one of the best street courses we race on for sure. It's long, really challenging, really fast and technically challenging. There are a lot of things to figure out, just one of the best venues in the series and a nice trip. It's a big party in Surfers; the streets are all full of people. There is a lot of beer flowing and quite a bit of excitement."
Oriol Servia #2 PacifiCare Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "It's great to be a contender for the championship even if I only have a slim chance. The team believed in me from the start and so did PacifiCare so I am glad to give them all the podiums so far and especially the win in Montreal and put them in the position of fighting for another 1-2 finish in the championship. There are two races left and two opportunities to win and were going to try our best to do this. Bruno brought PacifiCare wins in Montreal and Australia last year and it would be nice if I could do that for them again this year. I think (the race in) Surfers is a great success because of the racetrack layout. It's great fun, its long and has a great fast, challenging chicane. There are hard braking zones, overtaking zones so that's why I think it's so successful. The fans have such a good time watching the cars go through those corners that they always bring more friends the next year. It's become such a huge event now and that's why it's such a big party"
Paul Tracy #3 Indeck Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "Australia an event that everyone looks forward to. The atmosphere is incredible with big crowds of enthusiastic fans, huge corporate support and the best street course in all of racing. It's fast, it's physical and I expect the Forsythe Team to be very competitive here. I still have a little bit of a bad taste in my mouth after last year when I started on pole but had a pretty eventful race and ended up 4th. Surfer's Paradise is a race I want to win in 2005."
Mario Dominguez #7 Indeck Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "Surfer's Paradise will always be a special event for me since I won here in 2002 and got a podium last year (3rd place finish). It's such a beautiful location right here on the beach with lots of very friendly Australians that seem to keep the party going all week. There is so much to do that I came early again this year just to enjoy the area, but it will be all business when we hit the track. The weather always seems to be a bit of a variable and we have to spend a lot of time to get the car to work well through the chicanes, but it's a track where I've been quick in the past and I quite like the layout."
Alex Tagliani #15 Aussie Vineyards Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "I have been waiting for this event all year, I am very excited about the prospect of racing in front of the home town support for the Aussie Vineyards team. All year the momentum has been building within the team with this race in mind. Last race both myself and Marcus had a good run to finish inside the top ten, hopefully we can go a little bit higher this weekend for our local team owners Craig Gore and John Fish. I have finished on the podium back in 2001, I really enjoy the circuit which is definitely one of the best and most challenging in the Championship."
Jimmy Vasser #12 Gulfstream/PKV Racing Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "The goal for PKV Racing is to finish both PKV Racing cars in the top-five in the championship standings, but realistically I think placing one in the top-five and both in the top-ten would be a good result at this point. PKV Racing has made a lot of progress this year and, overall, I am pleased, but we still have a lot of work to do. I am looking forward to helping PKV Racing achieve our goal of being a consistent championship contender for many years. Surfers Paradise is one of my two favorite tracks. It has a great atmosphere and the circuit is very challenging. All the drivers really enjoy coming to Surfers and it is always a great race. As one of 14 former winners of this event I think it would be a great honor to be the first to become a repeat winner."
Timo Glock #8 DHL Global Mail Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "It is great to be back on a street track because I really enjoy driving between the tight walls and we usually have a pretty good race car on those style tracks. From what I have seen, the track looks pretty challenging for a driver and for the car as well. I hope that we can continue our good performance from Denver and Montreal to get back on the podium. The main goal will be to have a good performance as I continue my quest for the Rookie-of-the-Year honor and a top-ten finish in the championship points standings. I also look forward to working with my new teammate, Michael; it will be interesting to see how we can help one another in Australia."
Cristiano Da Matta #21 Bell Micro/PKV Racing Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "I am looking forward to the final two events of the season. I have had some success on both the Surfers Paradise and Mexico City circuits and would like to finish off my first season with PKV Racing on a good note. We have not accomplished everything we wanted to this year, but the team has worked very hard and I believe that we are in a good position to have strong showings in the final two events. Surfers Paradise is my favorite circuit in the Champ Car World Series. It is a challenging track and fun to drive. The atmosphere in Surfers is always fantastic. The Australian fans always support the race and the promoters do a great job."
Marcus Marshall #5 Aussie Vineyards Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "Since making my Champ Car debut at the start of the season there is one event I have been aiming towards all year, this one! All year I have been racing on circuits where I haven't raced any type of car on before but by racing on the Surfers Paradise street circuit before in other categories I can now put some of my local track knowledge into place which will hopefully aid me to gain my best result for the year. Growing up on the Gold Coast you get excited when the Champ Cars come to town but to actually be a part of the Champ Car race is a dream come true. I am confident that the Aussie Vineyards team can do our Australian supporters proud this weekend."
Michael McDowell #31 Rocketsports Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "I am unbelievably excited about racing in Champ Car for the first time and in Australia. This as been a life long dream for me, I know it will be difficult, but I am ready and confident with the Rocketsports team and I am sure we will have great success. I am also looking forward to working with Timo Glock; he has been a driver that I have followed through F1 and during his current Champ Car career."
Will Power #25 Aussie Vineyards Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "What an amazing few weeks. To get the opportunity to test a Champ Car is one thing but to then be given the opportunity to race one in your home event is simply amazing. As a Queenslander the Indy carnival is an institution, I'm still pinching myself that I will be driving for Team Australia in my home event. I can't wait to get onto the track on Friday and am excited about all the support from all of our fans throughout the weekend. I have won here in a Formula Ford and Formula 3 before so I know the track quite well but the aim for the weekend will be to get as much experience as I can behind the wheel of the Aussie Vineyards Lola and get to the finish of the race."
