After their strong showing at Surfers Paradise on Friday, Justin and the #9 CDW-RuSPORT team continued to run competitively on Saturday. Justin was 3rd quickest in morning practice and was pleased with the car's handling in final qualifying where he ran as high as 2nd until the dying moments of the session. In the end, though, his qualifying time of 1:30.586 (111.077 mph) was 4th fastest, shaded at the last minute by Newman/Haas/Lanigan's Sebastien Bourdais (1:30.438) and Paul Tracy (Forsythe, 1:30.426). Will Power delighted the fans with a new lap record (1:30.054, 111.733 mph) to earn pole position for Team Australia. Oriol Servia was 5th fastest in final qualifying, but starts Sunday's Lexmark Indy 300 from 2nd on the grid by virtue of his provisional pole on Friday. As a result, Justin will start from 5th on row 3.
"Overall, I was really pleased with the car and my flying lap", said Justin. "Qualifying at Surfers is just as crazy as the race! Just like a race, so many things have to fall into place to be on the pole. You need a fast car, good tyres and a clear track. Getting all those things to happen here at Surfers is incredibly difficult." He added, "I'm driving the best car I have ever had at this track, so I think the race tomorrow is going to be good."
