Dominguez Ready to Repeat at Surfers Paradise
Herdez Surfers Success: Dominguez holds the prestigious title of being one of four defending race winners at Surfers Paradise. He hopes to earn the title of being the first driver to ever win the event twice. Dominguez and his HVM team have sweet memories at the scenic track down under. When Dominguez scored his maiden Champ Car victory here two years ago, it was also the first win for Herdez Competition. This year, the team returns with the two most recent race winners as Dominguez's teammate, Ryan Hunter-Reay scored his first Champ Car victory while competing at Surfers as rookie in 2003.
The Top Five:Dominguez has his site set firmly on the Champ Car World Series championship ranking. He is just three points out of the top five. He is currently ranked sixth in the championship with 203 points behind Alex Tagliani who is fifth with 206.
The Reason they Call it Paradise: Other than his home race in Mexico City, Surfers Paradise is Dominguez's favorite stop on the Champ Car schedule. It's no wonder, only in Surfers does a driver like Mario get to swim with the dolphins, jet ski, compete against the Indy girls in beach volleyball and drive his 750 hp Champ Car all within a two-block area. It's been a great week in Paradise for Dominguez.
Almost Home: Mario's Crew Chief, Darryl Fox is a New Zealand native. A veteran in the Champ Car World Series, Fox is from Gore, New Zealand.
Mario on Surfers Paradise:"It's just fantastic to be back here at Surfers Paradise. I have been looking forward to it all year, and I can't to get back on this track. I have very good memories here and I would very much like to repeat them. With my home race in Mexico City being the next stop on our schedule, it is very important for me to get a very good result here. If history has anything to do with it, we are going to be in good shape. I won the race prior to Mexico the last two years and it would be an even bigger honor to do it here as I would be the first two-time winner among a very prestigious list of drivers. I think we have a great shot at it."
