Lexmark Indy 300 Round 1 Qualifying Quotes

Sebastien Bourdais #1 McDonald's Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "It was pretty tense session, as everybody said. I'm not going to repeat what both Paul and Alex said. It's just tough conditions. You have to be at the right time with the right tires. We just got lucky. I'm very happy for the team Newman/Haas and McDonalds to give me such a great car because it was definitely not easy. We gave it all. We said we were going to be attacking very hard this weekend, and I think it outlines very well what our mindset is."

Alex Tagliani #15 Aussie Vineyards Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "It's very good for the team. Everybody is very happy. They've been working really hard to put this third car together. Everybody thought that they were going to have a little vacation, and big surprise, they have to work harder to put a third car. I think a result like this keeps everybody happy and motivated to continue to work hard for the weekend. Car was really good. Hopefully we can repeat it tomorrow no matter what the weather does. After we ran in the rain this morning, yeah, we thought we had a good car in the rain. This qualifying was a little bit different because, like Paul said, the track is drying not enough to put slicks on, but just enough to have only one lap on the rain. So at the end we put a set of rain tires that was cold, scrubs. That's what helped to put the lap time that we did. But I felt like we had so much more in it. When I look at the gap that there is with Sebastien, I'm a little bit sad because we caught traffic. There was nowhere to go on the last three corners of the racetrack. Coming back with this lap time, we're pretty pleased with the car."

Paul Tracy #3 Indeck Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "I think it's just a difficult session to really figure out what to do. Obviously, the conditions were changing every lap. We went early and did a fairly long run, and, you know, second run was good. We were quickest on the second run. You know, really did my time, and then it went red. I thought everything would be great if it was a fairly lengthy red, but it was quick. When it went green again, our tires were done. Sebastien and Alex had fresh tires and the track was a little bit better. It was drying all the time. A little bit unfortunate. But overall we're happy."

Oriol Servia #2 PacifiCare Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "I only got two good laps in the Pacificare car in qualifying. On the other laps I kept messing up turn one, which made me miss the chicane each time. Then I ran slower to save the tires to try again on the next lap and messed up again. We waited to get out and it was the perfect timing, but I kept messing up turn one. The good news is that Paul (Tracy) didn't get the point because we are trying to hold onto second place in the standings."

Cristiano Da Matta #21 Bell Micro/PKV Racing Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "I think the Bell Micro/PKV Racing team got everything out of the car today that we could given the weather and track conditions. Obviously, it is the same for everyone, so you just do the best you can. The good news is that we are supposed to have good weather tomorrow. The whole PKV Racing team has been working very hard and we have developed a lot of new things for the car on street circuits. I think we have made some real improvement and hopefully, with good weather conditions tomorrow so we will really got a good chance to see what we have."

Jimmy Vasser #12 Gulfstream/PKV Racing Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "Today's qualifying really came down to a timing issue for the PKV Racing team. With the tricky track conditions and unpredictable weather, you had to make your best guess when to take your qualifying run. It worked out okay for the Gulfstream/PKV Racing team, but I think we still have some more left in the car. The good news is I keep hearing that Queensland really needs this rain."

Marcus Marshall #5 Aussie Vineyards Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "It wasn't too bad overall. The conditions were pretty tough, but they were the same for everyone. I am just really disappointed that the red flag came out towards the end of the season when it did because we were on a real flyer and who knows what would have happened. It is only Friday and I guess we will get even more serious tomorrow in hopefully dry conditions in the final qualifying session. The reaction from the fans and everyone involved with the event has just been amazing."

Michael McDowell #31 Commercial Defeasance Rocketsports Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "Well, during our first round of qualifying, we went out early in the #31 Commercial Defeasance car to get in at least one good lap before the rain started again. However, later on that hurt us because we burned up the rain tires before we could really get in a good lap. But that is ok, tomorrow is the day that really counts and I feel that we are on track. I am having a lot of fun out there, and starting to get real comfortable with the track, car, and team. So, things are all coming together, and I couldn't ask for anything more. I look forward to getting back out there and improving our times from today."

Will Power #25 Aussie Vineyards Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "I guess if you wanted the worst conditions to be having your first official run in one of these cars then we got them today. I am trying to learn the car and the track and those conditions don't help in either case. I never really got a chance to get in that last lap. I just hope we can get some dry running tomorrow and I can get as much track time as possible. We are all on a steep learning curve here. At the end of the day I need to remember this is my first race."

Timo Glock #8 DHL Global Mail Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone: "I gambled a bit this afternoon towards the end of the session because the track was pretty much dry. I felt that I had a chance to put the DHL Global Mail car in the top three, so I pushed really hard during my last laps of the first qualifying session. On the lap that I spun, I went easy through Turn One where it was still a bit wet. Then I pushed hard going through Turns Three and Four. I braked late, which caused my back tires to lock up. I touched the tires and did a little damage to the front wing. I gave up the chance to put Rocketsports in the top three this afternoon. I am sure we could have done it; everything seemed just right with the car. I look forward to tomorrow because I am pretty confident with the car."
