Philippe takes best-ever qualifying at Surfers Paradise
Turn one steals Ranger's chance to get back into top-ten.

Surfers Paradise, Australia (21 October 2005) "The Wellbox Mi-Jack Conquest team was thrilled with Nelson Philippe who delivered a faultless lap during Friday first qualifying session of the Lexmark Indy 300.

This is actually Nelson's best provisional starting place and he deserves a lot of credit for that." said Mi-Jack Conquest Racing co-owner Eric Bachelart. " We know this is only qualifying but grid position is half the battle and we have once again shown what we are capable of with a great result like today's.

Andrew Ranger short cut the turn 1 chicane on his last lap of a drying condition qualifying session and saw his chances of a good run disappeared. He ended up in 18th position with his Mi-Jack Conquest Racing machine. The baseline is there, the car has shown good consistency and the team looks forward to a better performance during Saturday final qualifying session.

Nelson Philippe - # 34 Wellbox - Mi-Jack Conquest Racing
"My team told me that I had one lap left after the red flag interruption. I went all the way; I really gave everything and went from last to 4th place. It was awesome. The team made some good changes during qualifying and that helped me. I want to keep the momentum and we will continue to work for tomorrow's final qualifying. Thanks to the Wellbox Mi-Jack Conquest team for all the hard work and especially to my engineer. We're not too far away from the competition ahead of us."

Andrew Ranger - # 27 Mi-Jack/Tide - Mi-Jack Conquest Racing
" I left the pitlane I was P9 and only had one decisive single-lap run to do. I made a mistake on turn one and later on turn 8 I had to slow down because of AJ. But I have been quite happy with the performance of the car throughout the day, the car is good and I can do better tomorrow. I hope to go really well in front of the incredible crowd of fans that we have here this weekend."
