* Bridgestone Race Highlights: Sebastien Bourdais became the first driver in Champ Car history to win four consecutive driving titles. He also became the first two-time winner at Surfers Paradise. In five Champ Car seasons, all on Bridgestone Potenza tires, Bourdais has amassed 30 race wins and 31 pole positions.
Bridgestone Tire Performance Summary: Bridgestone returned to Australia with the identical tire specifications as were used a year ago, and once again they performed flawlessly. There was equal preference for the primaries and alternates throughout the race, with nine drivers opting to run two stints on the red-sidewall alternates. A chart detailing each driver's tire use is attached.
From Sebastien Bourdais, #1 McDonald's Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone: "It was one of those races where I decided to have fun with it and give it all we had. To win the race, win the championship, be the first repeat winner in Surfers - what a day! We had a very, very good balance on the car with the Bridgestone primes. When I saw Justin out there doing so well on the reds, I thought maybe we should put them back on. Whatever tires you picked, it was just a matter of timing because they were going to perform for you. ... These have been the best racing years of my life. We've had an awesome stretch of years here and really enjoyed it. Now I know I'm going to a different challenge (Formula One), but still with Bridgestone tires. Bridgestone has been great to us, always gave us great tires, it was awesome."
From Al Speyer, Executive Director, Bridgestone Motorsport: "Bridgestone heartily congratulates Sebastien Bourdais and Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing. Winning one championship is difficult enough, but four in a row is both awesome and historic. We're also very happy for podium finishers Justin Wilson and Bruno Junqueira, as they drove extremely well today. We're pleased that the performance of both our primary and alternate tires was flawless again, with virtually all drivers setting their personal fastest laps near the end of a run. This underscores the fact that the tire durability holds up under very demanding conditions. Like everyone, Bridgestone always enjoys coming to Surfers Paradise and we're very much looking forward to coming back in 2008, and once again equipping all of the Champ Cars with Bridgestone Potenzas."
