2002 at Surfers Paradise: A graduate of the CART Toyota Atlantic Series and a rookie in the Champ Car World Series, Hunter-Reay will make his Australian debut this weekend.
Fast Lap: While his results at Mexico City were not what he had hoped for, it was a strong weekend overall. Hunter-Reay was the second fastest car in final qualifying at Mexico and for the first time in his Champ Car career earned the fastest lap award when he set the best lap time of the race which was one half a second faster than the rest of the field and even better, he set the four fastest laps of the race overall.
Working Australia: Hunter-Reay has been in Australia for over a week as he came in early to do promotional appearance for Ford of Australia. He spent two days at the Sydney Auto Show with fellow Champ Car drivers Oriol Servia, Michel Jourdain Jr. and Darren Manning. He arrived in Surfers Paradise on Saturday and has since spent a day jet-skiing, judged the Miss Indy swimwear competition, played several sets of beach volleyball and surfed some of the best waves in the world.
Hunter-Reay on Surfers Paradise: "I can't say enough about my experience in Australia so far. I have been having the time of my life. I am so excited for the race weekend to get started, the support, the excitement and the build-up is just incredible here. I have been having a lot of fun but I am certainly ready to put on my game face and get back to work. It is going to be a fantastic weekend."
