The Honda Indy 300 will again be the penultimate round of the FedEx Championship Series in 2002.

The 12th annual Queensland Champ Car race will be held on the streets of Surfers Paradise from October 24-27, 2002 and will be the 18th race in a 19-round series.

Preparations are already underway to make next year's event even bigger and better than the recent 2001 spectacular, which attracted a record four-day crowd of more than 286,000 fans, according to Honda Indy 300 Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Jones.

"This year's event was fantastic, but we are always looking at taking the race to yet another level," said Jones. "We have worked hard to make the Honda Indy 300 the best event on the FedEx Championship Series calendar and we will be doing everything possible to maintain our position. "We already have a wealth of new ideas and concepts and will be releasing them over the coming months."

There has never been a repeat winner in the 11 previous Honda Indy 300 events and this year's event received a bonus with Marlboro Team Penske's Gil de Ferran also being crowned as series champion on the streets of the Gold Coast.
