Skip Barber primary sponsor Dodge outran an established field on a soggy day in Michigan, to capture victory and a third place result at the Pepsi 400. Dodge notched its long-awaited first Winston Cup win in a high-pressure 2001 rookie campaign. The third place car was driven by Skip Barber trained Bill Elliott. Joining Elliott in the Top-10 were fellow Skip Barber developed racers Jeff Gordon (7th) and Steve Park (9th). Gordon, the three-time Winston Cup Champion, retains his hold on the series points lead…. Earlier on the Michigan oval in Busch Grand National action, Skip Barber trained Jeff Burton finished in the Top-10 in the napaonline.com 250.

CART action from Road America was more than soggy. Heavy rains and standing water induced havoc, spins and plenty of yellow flags in the Motorola 220. In the end, Skip Barber trained Michael Andretti, CART’s winningest driver, earned second place honors ahead of Helio Castroneves, the seventh place finisher. 1993 Barber Pro Series Champion Kenny Brack, who had an off-day placing outside the top-10, still leads the CART FedEx Championship. The hazardous conditions led to an enormous crash involving Skip Barber trained Memo Gidley. Gidley hit the bridge abutment in turn-13 and was incredibly fortunate to emerge with relatively light injuries… Jonathan Macri (2nd), Joey Hand (3rd) and Rocky Moran Jr. (6th) finished in the Top-10 in Toyota Atlantics support action for the main Champ Car event.

Skip Barber trained Patrick Long continues to impress in Formula Ford, where the Californian won his 3rd race of the season at Knockhill, Scotland. Long’s achievement for the Van Diemen factory team make him the first American to lead the British National Championship.
