Ends early first Champ Car race for Roberto Gonzalez.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Feb. 23, 2003).- Mexican Roberto Gonzalez who had his maiden Champ Car race at the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg retired after 21 laps completed due to a mechanical failure and was placed on the 17 spot after starting 18.

Lotto Speed backed driver is already thinking on his next race at his home track at Monterrey, Mexico, being the only Mexican driver in the above Series who was born in Monterrey.

Roberto Gonzalez, Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone Car #11: "It was unfortunate that we could not finish this race. However, it was a positive experience my first Champ Car World Series race. I am not sure what happened, I think the driveshaft broke because I've heard a noise and despite being able to continue in the race, a little bit later when I was downshifting the gears did not work anymore."

"Now, I am just looking forward to race in Monterrey, Mexico, my hometown and with about a month to go, we will have time to prepare ourselves better. My crew is new and this weekend, it was our first pit stop together and our first time in many things. So, I think we can improve our performance for the next round."
