The Herdez Competition team kicked off the 2003 Bridgestone Presents The Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford season with a strong day on track with both Mario Dominguez (car no. 55) and Roberto Moreno (car no. 4) posting top-ten practice times in the morning sessions. Dominguez posted his career best provisional qualifying position of 4th while Moreno suffered some miscues during qualifying, his time placing him in 15th overall. Final qualifying will take place Saturday beginning at 1:45pm ET and will be broadcast live on cable network SPEED Channel beginning at 1:30pm ET.
Mario Dominguez - Driver, Car 55
"It's a good car - good right out of the box. We've made a few little changes but basically it's been a good car right from the beginning. It's a pretty cool track - fun to drive and very unique because of the changes from streets to airport surface and back. I can tell you that I can already see the improvement in the team overall now that we have two cars. I really think I could have done a 1:01 easily but I got some traffic and then caught some local yellows. For sure we'll be shooting for a top three position tomorrow."
Roberto Moreno - Driver, Car 4
"We've been chasing a different setup today and we thought we had it right for qualifying - but obviously, not quite right. This set up has big advantages in some corners but disadvantages in others. So we're trying hard to get it right and I was probably trying a little too hard to drive around it. My crew is doing a great job and working very hard. The good news is that Mario (Dominguez) did well and I'm glad for him. We'll make up for it tomorrow."
