CHAMPCAR/CART: St. Pete: Fernandez Racing Friday qualifying report

Adrian Fernandez, Owner/Driver -- ...

Adrian Fernandez, Owner/Driver -- #51 Tecate/Quaker State/Telmex Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone:

"Basically we didn't have a clean run in qualifying today. I think we had a car that was capable of being in the top-four, but we couldn't get in a good rhythm because of all the red flags. On our first run, we just weren't in the right position on the track. There were too many cars coming out of the pits when we were on hot tires.

"I am really impressed with the track, and it feels good to be back in the car. I am not 100 percent yet but I am feeling better every day. Hopefully the weather will cooperate tomorrow so we can improve our position."

Gustavo del Campo, Team Manager:

"We had an oil sensor problem on the primary car this morning and switched to the back-up car. We improved the car a lot in the second session and finished practice second quickest with good possibilities for qualifying. We made our first run early in the qualifying session and we were in the top five. We were looking for a better lap at the end of the session but we didn't have the opportunity. I think we have a very good car for tomorrow."
