PAUL TRACY 12TH AFTER TWO DAYS OF TESTING

HOMESTEAD, Fla., (February 10, 2000) - Team KOOL Green's Paul Tracy finished 12th following two days of CART Spring Training. Tracy's best lap around the 1.5-mile oval at Homestead-Miami Speedway was 26.688 seconds (202.608 mph) in the morning session.

Team Rahal was the fastest team at CART Spring Training, as teammates Max Papis and Kenny Brack finished 1-2 in combined practice times. Papis was a little quicker than Brack, edging his teammate by 0.155 seconds. Papis clocked a time of 25.760 seconds (209.907 mph), while Brack's best lap was 25.915 seconds (208.651 mph). Michael Andretti was third with a time of 25.992 seconds (208.033 mph).

Meanwhile, Tracy's teammate Dario Franchitti continues to recuperate at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. Franchitti, runner-up for the series championship last season for Team KOOL Green, was injured after his car made contact with a wall on Wednesday afternoon. It will be three to four weeks before a decision is made on his participation in the season-opener at Homestead on March 26.

PAUL TRACY, #26 TEAM KOOL GREEN HONDA/REYNARD/FIRESTONE: (12th with a lap-time of 26.688 / 202.608 mph)

"We made some pretty big changes overnight to the KOOL car that didn't quite pan-out for us. So we kind of wasted the morning trying to whittle away at them. And then this afternoon, we went to our basic setup from yesterday and lost our way, I think because the track went away from us - it got kind of hot. We put a minute save on the day at the end, but all-in-all I'd say it was just an average day - not great. I think we've got a pretty good race car, if we can just button down the handling a little bit.

WHAT GENERAL MANAGER KIM GREEN HAD TO SAY:

"It wasn't a bad test; we tried a lot of different parts and setups. Obviously, we'd like to be fastest here, but our aim wasn't to come down here and be the fastest. Rather we wanted to come down here and test a list of items over the two days. We didn't get through as much as we wanted today, since we only had the one car on track with what happened to Dario yesterday. We went backwards a little earlier today, but right now we've probably got a good balance for race day and the car is fairly consistent. To go faster on a single lap, we need to find a little more speed by freeing the car up a little bit. We've got a little bit of understeer from mid-corner to the exit. But come race weekend, I think we'll be okay."
