PHILADELPHIA - Sunoco announced today that it has signed with Sigma Autosport to be an associate sponsor for the remainder of the 2002 CART FedEX Championship Series. Sunoco is the largest supplier of racing gasoline in the world and home of Ultra 94, the highest consumer octane grade gasoline.

Sunoco decals will adorn the Champ Car of driver Max Papis, starting at this weekend's Bridgestone Grand Prix of Monterey in California.

"Sunoco is pleased to sponsor Max Papis and his team. We have great admiration for the determination and courage shown by Max and look forward to being part of a winning tradition," said Bob Owens, Senior Vice President of Sunoco.

Currently, Papis is third in the CART Drivers Championship with 32 points. Papis has scored two podium finishes for Sigma Autosport this season, including two of the past three races. Papis, 32, who drives the #22 Sigma Autosport Lola-Ford/Cosworth, was third at the Long Beach Grand Prix and also at last week's Miller Lite 250 at Milwaukee. In addition, Papis has three career wins in the CART FedEx Championships Series.

"We're very proud to have a company like Sunoco join us for the season," said Tom Wieringa, owner of Sigma Autosport. "They are known internationally for the quality of their products. We are looking forward to representing them in the CART FedEx Championship Series."

Sigma Autosport, which is based in the Chicago suburb of Bridgeview, Ill., is a member of the CART FedEx Championship Series. Sigma was founded in 1999, and made its debut in CART last season.
