Motegi, Japan, May 10, 2000 - Walker Racing rookie driver and Japanese native Shinji Nakano has been released and cleared to drive at the Firestone Firehawk 500 at Motegi. Nakano, who was injured in a private testing accident in Milwaukee on March 31, has been recovering in Japan for the last two weeks.

Nakano participated in a short shakedown session at the 1.5-mile oval. He drove the #5 Walker Racing Avex Honda for a total of 24 laps during the test.

"I'm very happy to be back in the car," said Nakano. "I am also glad that CART gave us a chance to test the car before the race weekend. The banking at the Motegi track is higher than I have run on before and that should make the corners quicker at this track than the other ovals I've been on. It's good that we got some practice before the weekend."

The Firestone Firehawk race will be broadcast on a tape-delayed basis on May 13 at 1 p.m. on ABC.

"Ticket sales are going well for Motegi," team owner Derrick Walker commented, "and we expect a good crowd for the race. It also seems like the temperatures will be warmer this year, since the race is being held about one month later than before."

Walker Racing's corporate sponsor partners are avex, Alpine, Mitsuba, SpeedWRX, NGK, St. Elmo Steakhouse, Honda, Reynard and Firestone.
