The RuSPORT pairing of A.J. Allmendinger and Justin Wilson each delivered their 7th top-five qualification of the season through the challenging downtown street-course for the inaugural Grand Prix of San Jose. Allmendinger, who was raised here in San Jose, drove his #10 CDW Ford- Cosworth /Lola to 4th position during the qualifying session that was plagued with multiple red flags. British teammate Wilson, who is currently 3rd in the Drivers championship, piloted the #9 Intel Ford-Cosworth/Lola to 9th position despite struggling with continuous handling issues. After provisional qualifying was cancelled on Friday due to track construction issues, today's results will be final. The Taylor Woodrow Grand Prix of San Jose will take the green flag Sunday at 2:00 PM (PT) and can be seen live on SPEED Channel with coverage starting at 4:30 PM (ET).
"We've just been struggling all weekend here. We've slowly been making improvements, but they're not quick enough for what is needed. We're all going to go back and try and get a good car for tomorrow and really make the most of it for Intel on Sunday."
"I'm fairly pleased. Our goal was to be in the top five and fourth puts us there. I think the car was quicker than that, but fourth is a decent place to start for tomorrow. The CDW guys have been working really hard and we didn't start with a great car, but I think now we've got a solid race car for Sunday. I do have to say it's great to see all the fans out here in my hometown. I'm proud to be out here this weekend representing San Jose."
Jeremy Dale, Team President
"As is normal on a track like this, it's always challenging to get a clear lap and this session was true to form. I think A.J. is confident that his crew has given him a good and quick race car. He could be further up the grid, but #10 CDW car is in good shape for tomorrow. Justin and the Intel crew have a bit of wok to do for tomorrow, but they'll get the work done and get a good race car under him that he can drive forward for a good result."
