Champ Car Pre-Race Quotes
The Canary Foundation Grand Prix of San Jose Presented by Taylor Woodrow

Sebastien Bourdais #1 McDonald's Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone "The McDonald's team had a very successful weekend at the first race in San Jose. We were P1 at the end of the day on Friday, Saturday and Sunday so you couldn't ask for a better weekend since we earned the maximum points possible. Last year the season started to turn around in Edmonton and things started to go our way in the Championship and they continued in San Jose. It was great to win back to back first-time events last year (Edmonton and San Jose). We didn't repeat our win in Edmonton but we still have a shot at repeating in San Jose. I think the start of the race is going to be the toughest one of the season for sure and, maybe, ever. The McDonald's crew changed pretty much everything on the car last year the night before the race; they rebuilt the car from end to end. I give this organization (Newman/Haas Racing) a lot of credit for the result last year because it was a huge amount of work but we had two cars that made it to the finish and that was an achievement by itself."

Justin Wilson #9 CDW Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone "The promoters have made some track improvements since last year and that should give us more overtaking opportunities. We're also hoping that the railway tracks will be a bit smoother! We were able to finish 4th last year and the #9 CDW team are looking to improve on that this time round, building on the momentum from our Edmonton victory last weekend. We'll also be really busy off the track too. There's the launch of the new car for next year and we also have a lot of partners attending the race. All in all it should be a good weekend."

A.J. Allmendinger #7 Indeck Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone "San Jose is a great city, I grew up actually really close to the track, you know it's always exciting when you get to race in front of your home crowd. Last year's event was great, the place was packed and I think the fans had a great time. And this year it looks like it is going to be even better, they've made a lot of improvements that will make it easier on the cars, but more importantly it will give the fans an even better experience."

Paul Tracy #3 Indeck Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone "Our setup on the street courses has been pretty good this year, last year we had a good run on the streets of San Jose, finished on the podium, hopefully we'll be able to carry some momentum into this weekend and look for our first win. San Jose is a perfect example of what makes Champ Car so great, a true festival of speed, if we can keep getting events like this Champ Car will have a bright future."

Andrew Ranger #27 Mi-Jack Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone "I'm anxious to be heading back to San Jose to see the changes they made to the track. I hope I will enjoy the experience more this year because it was a little tough in '05 with the bumps and the narrow course. Once again I'm glad to be back with the Mi-Jack Conquest Racing Team and I appreciate their keeping me in the car in order to fight for my championship position. I would love to get my fourth place back from Paul Tracy once the weekend is over since I'm so close to him in points."

Alex Tagliani #15 Aussie Vineyards Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone "Last year we had a good car in San Jose, but during qualifying and the race we kept breaking pushrods. I started last on the grid because I didn't get to qualify. On the opening lap I bumped up to tenth and then to eighth and finished ninth. I had to come in and lost 10 laps because we had to repair a pushrod. The track was really rough and bumpy, which made it more challenging to race. This year the track is suppose to be much better, so I don't expect to have the problems we had last year. It's nice to come home to Vegas with Will (Power) and do some fitness and get back into business for San Jose."

Bruno Junqueira #2 Newman/Haas Racing Ford-Cosworth/Bridgestone/Lola "Last year I went to watch the San Jose race. I was in rehabilitation and couldn't race but I was there and watched the drivers go over those big bumps the tracks caused. It was incredible and scary at the same time because the track was really bumpy but I heard they improved the conditions for this year. The track might not have been ideal but the event was really good with a really great crowd and great weather. It was a lot of fun and a very successful event. If they improved the track for the drivers and the teams everybody is going to be very happy and it will be a great event. To prepare for my first race in San Jose I looked at Sebastien's data from last year. I looked at the gears he ran and where he got on the brakes around the track and I'll try to do the same. We will basically copy his setup because I've never been there and it's a great starting point."

Cristiano da Matta #10 RuSPORT Ford Cosworth / Lola / Bridgestone "Last year, the San Jose Grand Prix was a very successful event. The race organizers were aware of the problems with the track last year, and they have worked to fix them, so it will be a better race this year and should be even better next year. My engineers at RuSPORT and I have put together some good ideas to try on the track, and I'm looking forward to putting Edmonton behind me and having a very good weekend."

Nelson Philippe #4 CTE Racing-HVM Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone

I am obviously very disappointed about last weekend's race and I am looking forward to rebounding very well in San Jose. This is one of my favorite tracks on the schedule and a place very special to me. Ironically, I ended my race in the tires at Edmonton and will start San Jose the same way when I do an appearance for my new sponsor "Skip's Tire Center" on Wednesday."

Will Power #5 Aussie Vineyards Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone "I haven't been to San Jose yet, normal story for me as it will be my first time to the circuit. From the tapes I've watched the track is quite bumpy and very tight. It's a normal street circuit. I've been working with Alex (Tagliani) on what the grip level of the circuit is and what to expect. I look forward to San Jose after leaving Edmonton with a good result. My plan is to just get on the pace as quick as I did in Edmonton."

Dan Clarke #14 CTE Racing-HVM Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone "Overall, Edmonton was one of our better weekends, and that's because I have that bit more experience so I'm able to get up to the same pace as the veterans much quicker than the beginning of the season. I've also reassessed my approach to the weekend and concentrated on increasing my focus in certain areas, and I think this also helped me. We definitely got up to speed more quickly last weekend, and being P5 in Saturday morning practice has given me more confidence. San Jose is one of the tighter, twistier tracks on the calendar, so I'm going to spend the next few days focusing on the challenges that this presents for us. I've heard it's a great Californian Champ Car event; we'll be out on track to be part of the show."

Katherine Legge #20 Bell Micro Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone

I am looking forward to coming back to San Jose. I had a great race there last year when I won in the Atlantic's and I was really impressed with the crowd and the atmosphere at the event. It was really enjoyable to be a part of the inaugural race. This is like a home race for me because our team owners Kevin Kalkhoven, Dan Pettit and Jimmy Vasser all have local ties to the area. Kevin and Dan live near San Jose and Jimmy was raised in the area. From what I have seen and heard the San Jose Grand Prix organizers have done a great job of improving the track for both the drivers and the fans, so this should be a fantastic event for everyone."

Charles Zwolsman #34 Mi-Jack Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone "I'm hoping that the track is not as bumpy as last year! I know that they have smoothed it out, but it will be interesting to see the changes. The feel will definitely be different driving there in a Champ Car this year and I am looking forward to it. Like usual my goal is to finish in the top-ten and I would also like to improve on my qualifying."
