Wirdheim to Start Eighth, Lavin 12th in San Jose Debut
BJORN WIRDHEIM, #4 HVM/Lola/Ford-Cosworth/Bridgestone
Bjorn on the Qualifying: "I am happy with today's qualifying. They have changed the track quite a lot, which gave us something new to learn today and required us to make changes to the setup. We worked through the day and got it sorted. I did enough laps through the practice and warm up today that I was confident in the car for qualifying. I did my fastest lap time on my second set of tires and I also was able to do a complete run on that set of tires, so I was really happy to get a time in because I knew there would be a lot of red flags throughout the session. I am pleased to be eighth and I am looking forward to a good race result and the opportunity to score some points."
Rodolfo Lavin, #55 HVM/Lola/Ford-Cosworth/Bridgestone
*Rodolfo on Qualifying:"We made some changes last night that didn't really suit the new chicane changes. However, my car was much better from this morning to this afternoon, we improved it a lot. We did a lot of work on the brakes and I did a much better job today in qualifying. I think there is still a half a second in the car. Unfortunately, there was lots of traffic in my last stint and I was unable to set a faster lap. I was seven-tenths quicker in the first stint and then the red flag came out, but that is the same for everyone. I am very happy to be here, this team works hard, but they work hard together and I am confident I will achieve good results this season for HVM and my sponsor Corona."
* Today is Rodolfo's 28th birthday.
Keith Wiggins, Owner and Managing Director:"I am happy to have an accident free day. Bjorn did a good job and I think Rodolfo did a very good job considering it's his first time back in a car after seven months. He was actually significantly quicker on a lap that was interrupted by a red flag, which shows good for tomorrow. Let's hope they both have a clean race tomorrow, if the do, we are confident they can achieve a strong result."
