The management of Rockingham Motor Speedway, while as shocked as everyone else worldwide by the tragic events unfolding in the USA today, have confirmed that the Rockingham 500 Champ Car race will go ahead on 22nd September.

The FedEx Championship race is the 17th round of America's premier motor racing series and all the equipment is being airlifted from the United States. This has led speculation in some quarters that the event's logistics may be affected by the grounding of all airline services in America. This will not be the case.

"The majority of the cars, team equipment and many of the drivers had already arrived in Europe on Tuesday, prior to this weekend's race in Germany" said Rockingham spokesman Stephen Slater. "We are as shocked as everyone else by today's proceedings, but the races in Germany and here at Rockingham in the UK, will go ahead as scheduled."

The race, which will be broadcast on the following day, Sunday 23rd September, on BBC2 Grandstand from 1.05 to 3.00pm, will also be shown on Eurosport at 4.30 on the Sunday afternoon. The race will also be shown in the UK at 4am on Tuesday 25th, on Channel 5.

The inaugural UK round of the CART FedEx Championship Series will be held at Rockingham Motor Speedway on September 20th to 22nd.
