Rocketsports Reflections From Sebring Champ Car Tests
Rocketsports drivers, Alex Tagliani and Nelson Philippe, today completed three days of testing in Sebring, Florida. The duo were unanimous in their praise of the entire Rocketsports crew, and came away from the first running as a two-car team satisfied that they had met their goals for the tests.
Tagliani burned the Sebring track in the No. 8 Johnson Controls Lola with a blistering 50.2 second lap, the quickest of the day. "It's been great to get back into the Lola and spend some quality time experimenting with the new technology and equipment that has been made available to us. As a team, we accomplished our goals and saw the potential of the car here in Sebring," said Tagliani.
"These three days have been an incredible learning experience for me and the team to work with new parts and new strategies. We tested different shocks, suspension and differentials. My engineer, Brian Ma, has been developing new concepts and we used this time to test them and get up to speed," concluded Tagliani.
Rookie sensation, Nelson Philippe in the No. 17 LeasePlan Lola earned great respect from his team for battling through telemetry difficulties earlier in the week and posting his best time of 51.1 seconds today.
"I felt very comfortable in the car and with the guidance of my engineer, Alain Clarinval," said Philippe. "We pushed through those early problems and made adjustments to get the right responses from the car, but it all came together. I'm eager to get to Homestead and continue our test program next week."
"Nelson's a fast learner and he's posted competitive times all week," said team manager, Phil Howard. "We experimented with different parts and set-up, and he's taken it all in.
"Tagliani was smokin' (fast) on the track today and the whole team is coming together nicely. Running two cars is working very well and the tests have been a real success," added Howard.
