CHAMPCAR/CART: Road America: Walker Racing Saturday report

Rodolfo Lavin (R), #5 Corona Competition Team Ford-Cosworth XFE-Reynard-Bridgestone

"It was a disappointing session; we just couldn't go any quicker. Yesterday the Corona car was much quicker and we didn't change the set-up much for this afternoon. We just couldn't get any more speed out of the car. The car's still pushing, so we'll have to focus on making changes overnight to remedy that. It's a long race though tomorrow with four pit stops, so a lot can happen over those 60 laps. I started 18th last weekend in Vancouver and with the help of the Corona Walker Racing crew I made my way into the top-ten. Hopefully, we can have similar luck tomorrow."

Darren Manning (R), #15 RAC Walker Racing Ford-Cosworth XFE-Reynard-Bridgestone

Manning lost third gear just 30 minutes into Saturday morning's 75-minute practice session after having posting the fifth fastest lap, 107.18 seconds (135.961 mph), in ten laps. The #15 RAC Walker Racing crew replaced the gear in just 34 minutes to get Manning back out on-track with eleven minutes remaining in the session. Manning rewarded the team's efforts by turning the third fastest practice lap overall with a quick time of 105.419 seconds (138.237 mph) going into final qualifying.

Manning spun on his ninth lap of Saturday's final qualifying session. He lost his fastest lap of the day, a 104.96-second lap, as the penalty for bringing out the red flag.

"That session didn't go to plan at all, especially after a good morning practice session where the RAC Walker Racing crew did a good job to get the car out after I broke a gear and we ended up third fastest. I was happy with the car in this session as well, but just on my third flyer in my first outing I locked the rears slightly going into Turn 4 or 5 on a down shift. I just lost it and went into the gravel. The tires just weren't up to temperature. And then I lost my fastest time. I have one of the fastest pit crews on the pit lane though and with four stops in tomorrow's race, they should come in handy to help me improve on-track."

Fast Facts: Will be his 13th Champ Car start and 12th with Walker Racing, Has earned nine top-ten finishes in 2003, Has ten top-ten finishes to his credit in 12 starts, Ranked ninth overall in the drivers' championship with a season total of 60, Currently second in the Rookie of the Year standings
