Sebastien Bourdais #1 McDonalds Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 1st)
"This morning we had some kind of gearbox issue, something broke at the back. I don't know exactly what it is, at least not in English. It just kind of broke. We did one lap. That was that. Just very, very happy that the McDonald's car was super fast again. It was very consistent for us. To be very honest, we haven't changed anything on the car since yesterday. It just felt just as well. It just proves we had a really good read at the test, and had a very productive work. It's about as good as it gets. It was a fantastic lap. You know, really had a great, great time driving this car. We'll see how it goes tomorrow. It's going to be a completely different story. Might be raining. Might be doing anything, since we're on the pole and dominant (laughter). I guess we'll see what happens. We've been in this position before and we still managed to lose it, so I'm not going to say anything about the race really."
Will Power #5 Aussie Vineyards Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 2nd)
"It's great to be starting on the front row, of course. But, you know, with Sebastien's time, I think we're all a little bit concerned. But, you know, you've seen what happens in races: anything can happen. You know, we're going to give it our best shot. I have to stay in qualifying, we really struggled on the reds. I made a late call to go on blacks, but it was too late, so I had to run the red tires. Yeah, we didn't improve. It was really tough to get a lap."
Robert Doornbos #14 Team Minardi USA Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 3rd)
"I had no idea what lap times I was doing. You know, I had to communicate with the team. But on the main straight here with the engine revs quite high, they were shouting the lap time, it was very hard to understand. But, yeah, we overcome the problem. More importantly this afternoon in between the outings the red tires went on the car because we had a new red set left from yesterday, and I sort of got a little voice in my head that said, No, no, no, I need the blacks. I changed the tires because the reds yesterday were also a bit of a struggle for me. Last minute we changed it, so there was a bit of panic in pit lane. But the guys did a great job. Once I was out on the track, I just felt the tires were good. Again, my engineer was shouting the lap times through the radio. A good team effort I would say today."
Graham Rahal #2 Medi | Zone Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 4th)
"After being fastest in the morning practice and running well in the short practice before qualifying, we were hoping to make a big improvement in our qualifying position from yesterday and we were able to. Actually on the last lap we were up two-tenths of a second on my quickest lap but I ran out of fuel. I was up two-tenths of a second on a part of the track where I always lost two-tenths so I knew the lap was going to be good, and, ultimately it would have gotten us a front row start. We weren't expecting to get the extra lap so it wasn't a big surprise but we thought we would go for one last lap and it would have been better. Fourth is still a good starting position for the Medi | Zone team. We're still a ways back from Sebastien but so is everyone and we'll just have to work hard to close the gap in the race."
Bruno Junqueira #19 Sonny's Bar-B-Q Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 5th)
"This is the car of my dreams. I have never been so happy in my life to get a P5. I know that I have had a P5 before, but this is the best one I have ever had. Everything went right for us during qualifying today. The car handled beautifully on the track this afternoon. I told everyone on my team that I was going to get a P5 this afternoon and I did what I said I was going to. I was only a tenth of a second away from a P2. Now I have to try to find a good race setup for tomorrow's race."
Alex Tagliani #8 RSPORTS Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 6th)
"I think that we made an improvement today, we just got stuck a little bit on the end. We had to make a pretty good balance change on the car when we ran on red tires to black tires. We ran the Bridgestone Potenza red tires for our first run, and then switched back to the blacks for the second stint. But it was a little bit too tight at the end, as we got the change done, but we were only able to run four laps instead of five. I think that we had a car that was capable of being P2 today, but we just did not have enough time to get the lap we needed to move us higher up on the grid. But it was a very good effort from the #8 RSPORTS crew, as we are going to start sixth tomorrow. So that is not too bad since we know that we have a good car. Anything and everything is possible during the race tomorrow, we just have to be smart and try to be there at the end. If we can do that, then I am pretty sure we will have a good race."
Neel Jani #21 Red Bull-Gulfstream Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 7th)
"The Red Bull Gulfstream PKV Racing team had a good qualifying session yesterday, we were third. Today, we struggled quite a lot with the car and we could not improve on yesterday's time, so I have fallen back to seventh place. It is unfortunate because this morning I thought we found something, but this afternoon it just didn't work. So we just have to see what happens tomorrow."
Dan Clarke #4 Team Minardi USA Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 8th)
"We just couldn't get the red tires to work for us today. I couldn't find the speed that we had in practice, but fortunately yesterday's time held up for seventh. It's not the optimal starting position, but we've had worse, and obviously Robert has shown that you can some from the back to win races, and I'm looking forward to tomorrow."
Jan Heylen #34 Grafiprint Digital Printing Materials Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 9th)
"After yesterday's provisional session, we are definitely happy with our better results today. This was a good session for me as well as the team; the guys did a great job last night preparing a strong car for today's final qualifying. We had a good warm up and a top ten practice this morning in which we were able to prepare for the afternoon qualifying session. Today's sixth place finish is more on par with where we should be within the field and while we had a faster session today, the combined results give us a starting position of ninth for Sunday's event. It is always good for us to be starting in the top ten and we look forward to capitalizing on our qualifying results to have a great race tomorrow."
Justin Wilson #9 CDW Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 10th)
"The #9 CDW car just wasn't suited for the red tires today. We ran both stints on the softer Bridgestone Potenza Red tires, but they just made the car more difficult to drive, therefore we never had the chance to improve our time today. It is a shame, as we thought saving the reds would help us be quicker today, but that was not the case for us here today. We have to take what we got and start to work on a way to get to the front during the race. I just hope that we can put together a good plan and have a clean race with the #9 CDW car tomorrow."
Tristan Gommendy #22 Pay by Touch MegaSpirea Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 11th)
"It is difficult to find the right setup for this track. The Pay By Touch MegaSpirea PKV Racing team tried a lot of things and I think we definitely improved the car from yesterday, but fortunately, we used both our sets of black Bridgestone tires yesterday, so we had to use the red tires today and they were slower. We did a good lap time with the red tires, I think we had the third fastest time on reds, but the black tires were definitely quicker today. So that is the way it is, I did my best and we will see what happens during the race tomorrow."
Simon Pagenaud #15 Aussie Vineyards Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 12th)
"Well we did improve the Aussie Vineyards car a lot, but we found this morning the set of tires that we used yesterday just weren't working properly. We came back on the pace and were pretty fast today. The car is not bad and we will see in the race, we can take the draft and pass people, so we will see. We can come back."
Katherine Legge #11 Dale Coyne Racing Cosworth/DP01/Bridgestone (Qualified 17th)
"It's been a tough weekend for us. I can't put my finger on the problem that has been holding us back this weekend. I know that my team is going to do their best and give me a good car for the race tomorrow."
