Driver Quotes Dan Clarke ...
Dan Clarke #14 CTE Racing --HVM Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "We were just waiting really. If it was going to go dry, we knew we'd have to go out. It was just a case of sitting in the car waiting for a whole hour. In the end, I didn't have to go out. As the session was panning out, I think by the end of prequalifying, it looked like we were going to go quicker overall. But then it rained a little bit, then it dried, then it rained again. That was pretty much certain that we were okay. It was just waiting and waiting. You know, some of the mechanics thought that we'd done it early, like 15 or 20 minutes to go, so they started to take the helmets off. That's just asking for bad luck. In the end, it worked out. It's still raining now, I think."
Sebastien Bourdais #1 McDonald's Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "I think as everybody saw, these conditions were really nerve-wracking. The whole McDonald's team was just monitoring radar and everything to see when it was going to be optimal to run. It was extremely unclear. We elected to go right off with the used tires that we had yesterday. We could only afford to use one set of new tires, rain tires, otherwise if tomorrow it's raining we're going to run out. It was a little complicated. We just happened to be the track at the right time. Pretty quick lap, which ended up being good enough."
Charles Zwolsman #34 Mi-Jack Conquest Racing Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "Feels great. Yesterday I was happy, but I was a bit like could happen today that it dried up and I'd lose the spot. Today I'm really happy because now it's final and I'm starting in third. I'm really looking forward to that."
A.J. Allmendinger #7 INDECK Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "Obviously we wanted to be higher up on the grid for tomorrow's race, but we've just gotten caught out by the conditions all weekend. This morning during practice it was dry and we managed to do a pretty decent time, we were still pretty far from Sebastien but it wasn't bad. But for wet conditions we still have a lot of work to do as a team, the car is just sliding all over the place, once it starts sliding it doesn't stop and it just throws you off line. Hopefully tomorrow it will be dry, the Forsythe Team always gives me great race cars so I'm confident that we can fight for another win tomorrow."
Justin Wilson #9 CDW Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "The track was tricky today. It started out dry, then rained, and then began to dry out again. During the first stint, we had a little bit of oversteer, and we fixed it for the second stint, but unfortunately the track was a lot slower. But if the track is dry, I like our chances. The car is pretty good, and it's fairly balanced. We were second quickest today, and that was early on in the session when it was drier, but we didn't have a good balance. We changed the balance and made it a lot better, but the track then became much slower. That's how it is in wet conditions...it's a bit of a lottery. But the CDW team and I will get back to work tonight, and we're looking forward to a good race tomorrow."
Katherine Legge #20 Bell Micro Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "It is really a shame that the weather conditions today were so bad. I really think that the Bell Micro -- PKV Racing team could have improved our grid position based on what we learned yesterday. However, overall, I am satisfied with our qualifying effort this weekend. We are starting eighth, which is our best starting position since Milwaukee and our best starting spot on a road course this year. The team did a fantastic job both days and I am very confident going into tomorrow's race. ."
Bruno Junqueira #2 Newman/Haas Racing Ford-Cosworth/Bridgestone/Lola/Bridgestone -- "We felt the track was much wetter than yesterday so we didn't run. It's a shame because Sebastien and I were P1 and two this morning. Maybe we could have fought to set the fastest time in the session and guarantee a front row but Sebastien set his time early when the track was dryer. We watched the forecast and waited a little bit for it to get dryer but it never did. It will be tough to start in tenth place but we will try to make the most of every situation and get to the front."
Paul Tracy #3 INDECK Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "Well we tried to go faster than yesterday but it was just too wet. We made a mistake yesterday during qualifying and we are paying dearly for it now. I'm starting pretty far back but I know my car is better than that so I'll just have to fight my way through the field, it's a long race and this is one of the few tracks that we run on where you can overtake if you are faster than the guy in front of you so we should be ok."
Jan Heylen #11 The Muermans Car Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "We were hoping to do a little better after yesterday. We are always good in the rain. For some reason we are way off here, so we have a little bit of work to do. It's not bad, but it could be a lot better. I am hoping to do a lot better in the race tomorrow."
Oriol Servia #6 Gulfstream Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "It just didn't happen for the Gulfstream -- PKV Racing team today. The only time it rained today was during qualifying, which is unfortunate because we had a very good car when it was dry. We had a very good practice session this morning when it was dry and I think we have improved the car from there. In the wet we made a little progress from yesterday, but no one went faster today. In the end I hope it is dry for the race."
Tonis Kasemets #18 Flexovit Abrasives/Rocketsports Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "I really need more time to drive the Champ Car here. I am just getting used to the #18 Flexovit Abrasives/Rocketsports car on this track and how it wants to be driven, especially in the rain. More time would help build up my confidence, but unfortunately we don't have much time left here before the race. I am lucky to have an engineer, John Gentilozzi, who is willing to work with me in terms of making changes on the car. It is a good balance between the two of us, so things are working well and I am very happy. We will have a little more track time tomorrow for the race, and then we will see what happens. I will do my best, as I have a lot of family and friends here, not to mention my sponsors Flexovit Abrasives. Hopefully we can have a good race with a good finish, and that it does not rain tomorrow!!"
Mario Dominguez #8 Pemex/GICSA/Del Valle Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone -- "It was raining more than yesterday, so we were unable to improve our time. So we will have to start tomorrow's race in the 15th spot, but that is ok. The #8 Pemex/GICSA/Del Valle car should be fast tomorrow. It is going to be more exciting to start from the back and work our way to the front in the race. I plan to do my best for the Rocketsports team, Pemex, GICSA, Del Valle and my personal sponsors Telmex and Bridgestone, and hopefully we can have a good finish in our first race all together."
Juan Caceres #19 Sonny's Bar-B-Q Ford-Cosworth/Lola/Bridgestone - "The weather situation with one session in the wet, one dry and one in the middle has made it really difficult. I really like how the car feels on the track and the Champ Car environment. I hope tomorrow it is either all wet or all dry, since I do not have the experience to make the call as to which tires to use in changing conditions. I am happy to be here and hope to have a top ten finish at the end."
